This was the view at Oak Hollow Family Campground. When I checked out yesterday morning, the gal at the front desk was NOT happy that we snuck in after hours on another camper’s heels, nor that we took the site we thought was ours only to find we were supposed to be nine doors down. I mea culpaed my way out the door because we’re supposed to stay there again on our way home. This time we’ll be SURE to get there early!

Yesterday was a perfect travel day. We both slept well and Mr. FixIt LOVES the new beds so I’ll call that a big win for the remodel! We split the trip in two days of 300 miles driving. We had no issues save for a bobble here and there. I forgot to update the GPS and there was a new interchange that it didn’t recognize. We got turned around a little here and there from that, but it recalculated and we were soon on the right path.

Somewhere on US 64, a hen turkey flew right in front of us and there was no way to safely avoid hitting her. I hated it so bad and when I looked back there was a sea of feathers. We talked about it and Mr. FixIt said if the bird would have been three or four inches higher, it would have hit the grille of our truck and break it. If it would have been a foot higher, it would have hit the windshield and bounced up to the front of the camper. That would have been a costly repair.

We finally got to the island around 3:30 in the afternoon. We were on the Croatan Highway heading to the campground when the light suddenly changed and the guy in front of me slammed on his brakes. I slammed on mine. And the guy in the one ton behind us not only slammed on HIS brakes…he slid into the middle turn lane at an angle and stopped about six inches off our bumper! Thank God we are all safe.

Our campground is quiet considering it’s Bike Week down here. Of course, the fact that the temperature was in the low 50’s here today surely dampened the spirit of all but the hardiest of bikers. We met up with our son and daughter-in-law and the former Mrs. FixIt and her sister for dinner. They all came back to the camper to see the remodel and loved it.

We went to the store for a few things then came back and settled in for the night. We’ll get together with the kids today and do something. It’s supposed to be sunny, but not very warm so fishing may not be on the agenda. But it’s sure to be fun!

  1. Ginny, Oak Hollow Campground is in High Point,NC. That was our base campground when we were full timing and stayed there very often. Enjoyed the scenery and walking paths with the dogs. Enjoy your vacation.
