Getting Ready to Camp

It feels like we just got home and I’m heading out again tomorrow. I’m taking the camper with me to have a girl’s weekend with my bestie, Gail. We love camping together. It’s supposed to rain a lot over the next few days, but that handy dandy dual recliner will make knitting much more comfortable…and dry.

After knitting group yesterday, I stopped by Happy Jim’s Trading Post. Yes…it’s a real place in our tiny little town. OMGosh! You can ALWAYS find something you can’t live without at Happy Jim’s. I was on the prowl for curtains or something to make curtains from. I really want something that’s bright and cheery. The first thing I came across was several vintage tablecloths. OMGosh! I LOVE these things and have owned several over the years. These were a mix of red, blue, green, and yellow. Primary colors with cheerful fruit and floral motifs. I bought all of them!

Gail will bring her sewing machine to the campground and I can make the curtains while we’re there. I have a clear idea how I want to make them. When I had the opportunity to tow the Girl Camper Raffle Trailer around in 2019, I loved the curtains that Janine made. They allowed the windows to be totally covered, half covered or fully open by using a series of hooks.

These tablecloths are authentic mid-century vintage and have obviously been used. There are small stains and discolorations on them. I purchased a product that you soak age-stained textiles in to brighten them. I’ve used this before and it really works! The package said to set the container with the solution and textiles out in the sunshine to keep it warm. But what do you do if there isn’t any sunshine? You just have to do what you can and hope for the best. I’ll show you the after pictures tomorrow and we’ll see if they’re brighter.

Remember I told you the other day I have to sing for my supper. Well, Mr. FixIt was gone most of the day so I deep cleaned the kitchen and got most of the extras in the family room put away. Do any of you use a Shark Steamer on your floors? They are especially good on kitchen floors as they cut the grease and you don’t have to use any chemicals. I don’t want to leave him with a lot of extra work to do while I’m gone. I’m really looking forward to camping with Gail. And the day after I get back, we leave for the Eastern Panhandle for four nights camping in the mountains. I’m hoping it’s warm and dry!
