A hearty breakfast of grits, eggs, and turkey sausage is a great way to start the day on the right foot.
I know we aren’t supposed to put up our Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving. But if you’ve been following me any length of time, you know I LOVE me some twinkle lights once the nights get longer. Mr. FixIt was kind enough to bring the decorations up from the basement yesterday afternoon and I started working on the tree while he was at the bowling alley last night.
Look at my nice, clean living room!
I have a long standing tradition that goes back to when Daughter #1 was a little girls. She loved what she called “singing and dancing movies” so we always watched White Christmas while we decorated the tree. I was really sad when I learned that Mr. FixIt isn’t crazy about that movie. See, his family owned the Palace Movie Theater in Parkersburg when he was a little boy and I’m sure he had to watch that movie every December at least seventy-five times. It’s just not his thing. If I can get the preliminaries out of the way when he’s not there, I can watch White Christmas. It really puts me in the mood for the holidays and we can finish decorating together.
I have the tree up, the angel on top, and the lights on. The Santa’s are in place and the stockings are hung. I found a string of light that are battery powered so I have them on the wreath in the window. The battery operated candles are on the window sills. We have decided this is the last year for this tree. I think it might have gotten wet in the basement during one of the leaks we had because it smells musty. We also had an issue with the stove last year and there was black stuff all over it. It’s time to get a new one when they go on sale this year.
You know, I don’t see anything wrong with decorating early if it brings joy to your life. These days are hard enough without trying to live up to the expectations of others. We have to look for joy wherever we can find it and if that means you have a Christmas tree up from November through February… or all year round for that matter… then I say go for it! Life’s too short.
I have three more holiday designs posted in the shop and I think that’s about all the Christmas things I’ll do. I don’t want people to wait too late to order items for gifting and then not get them in time. I’ll probably turn off the holiday items about the middle of December.
I had the perfect weekend. I had coffee with my high school friends on Saturday. I FaceTimed with both of my girls on Sunday! And, I have knitting group this morning so I’m looking forward to visiting with my new friends. Life is good and busy now and I’m feeling so grateful.
