We had all the tools set up and ready for the “crew” when they got here. By “crew” I mean my stepson. After classes were over, his youngest and her boyfriend came out to help. Other than that…it was us. You will be happy to know, we did NOT get up on the roof, nor did we climb the ladder any higher than two rungs to hand something up to them. Mr. FixIt Jr. go almost all the shingles scraped off. Mr. FixIt Sr. and I picked up all those shingles off the tarp and threw them in the back of the truck. We’ll take that load to the dump this morning. The young ones will go with us to help empty the truck.
The underlayment where the two rooflines meet has pretty much rotted away and needs replaced. That’s a job for today.
There are two old cedar trees out front that droop down onto the roof. They are filled with yellow jackets and they have to go. My stepson will bring the big chainsaw out and get those cut down while we’re at the dump. Then we can get back at it. I’m really looking forward to sprucing up the landscaping next spring.
I went to get fried chicken for supper and it was way overcooked so I just bought sandwich fixin’s. We sat out as the sun began to set and it got really chilly…really fast. As soon as the sun drops below the ridge of the far hill, we’re pretty much done. The boys worked for another hour or so. We went around with the long magnet and picked up nails that had dropped on the lawn, then we sent our team home for the night.
I was helping with the shingles yesterday when I noticed the grit from them kept getting in my shoes. I went inside and rummaged around, looking for a pair of sturdy hiking boots. I found an old pair of Salomons that I used to wear cross country skiing. I’ll bet I haven’t put them on for probably ten years. I notice they didn’t feel quite right on my feet. When I stopped for supper, I looked down and realized the sole was coming right off the boot! All the cushy part between the boot and the sole was disintegrating right before of my eyes. I sent an email to the Solomon Boot Company to see if they might resole boots there. I’ll let you know if they do and how much.
Speaking of boots, Pumpkin Kitty was totally enamored with them. She rubbed all over them and when I tried to walk away, she kept running and getting in front of me so she could rub on them some more. Then, when I finally had to get back to work, she ran and flat out attacked them…nearly biting and clawing me in the process. I tell you…I am not fluent in “cat”. I have no idea what her game was.
I was so tired by the end of the day, I couldn’t do much more than crawl into bed. Today’s another day!
