HELLO APRIL!!!!!

The redbud are blooming!!!

Wowza! We not only survived winter, but we’re full on spring around here! Lots of rain and I believe you can HEAR the grass growing. I’ll be on the mower by next week. I love walkabouts at the time of year. It makes me slow down and appreciate our surroundings here at Marshmallow Ranch.

We had one heck of a thunderstorm in the wee hours yesterday. I think I still have a little PTSD surrounding that time we almost got swept up to Oz in Kansas last summer. I slept in the camper with the windows wide open so I could hear the frogs and other night critters. Around 2:00, the wind picked up and the thunder roared. The sound of rain on the roof wasn’t something gentle that would lull me to sleep. Nope…I just laid there and waited till it was over. It came back around 4:30, so there wasn’t much sleep. The creeks were roaring.

We did have a great weekend, though. I baked my weekly loaves of bread. I’ve figured out two medium-sized loaves will last us the whole week. This Japanese Milk Bread is THE bomb and my new go-to. Mr. FixIt loves it. When he gets home from bowling on Sunday night, I slice a nice hunk of warm bread and fix him a cup of tea. I’m getting rave reviews on the bread now!

Little Grey Tree Frog on the Storm Door

When I got home from knitting group yesterday, Mr. FixIt had the fishing poles in the living room, cleaning them and getting ready for our camping trip at the end of next week. We’re getting really excited for this trip. I’m hoping the weather will be nice for fishing. I helped him put the lid back on the console of his truck. The latch broke off and try as we might, we could not find a replacement piece. A new cover cost over $700 and a used one was around $350. I puzzled over it for a few days and the solution came to me. We needed magnets. Glue one to the top and one to the bottom. Voila! Problem solved. We glued them in place and will check today to see if it worked.

I love figuring things out…and when you can save that kind of money, it’s deeply satisfying. There’s an old saying…”Watch your pennies and your dollars watch themselves!”

Today I am grateful for my mechanical abilities so I can fix things without spending a ton of money. A skill needed in times like these.
