Saying Goodbye to the Old Hybrid Camper
I can’t tell you how tired we both were last night. I stayed home and mowed while Mr. FixIt took a bunch of stuff to the salvage yard. As I was making one of my rounds, I looked over and there was the gentleman who bought the old hybrid camper coming to pick it up. It took him a couple of hours to get everything tacked down and get it ready to transport. I continued to mow and when Mr. FixIt got back, I stopped for something to eat.
It was really hot out there yesterday. Up in the low 80’s. I used my umbrella and sunscreen. I still needed to take breaks and I drank one of those dehydration rescue drinks. They’re called Drip Drop. There are other companies that make these, but this is the first thing I’ve ever used that keeps me from getting heat exhaustion. That’s something I avoid like the plague. Once you’ve had it, it seems to come on more easily and more severe. You can buy Drip Drop through my affiliate account on Amazon if you’re interested in trying it. One bag ought to last you a year or two. I mix one up in a bottle of water and keep it in the cup holder on the tractor and sip on it as I mow. It’s a miracle! Here’s the link for the variety pack.
I don’t think I even made supper last night. I pieced on this and that during the day and was just too tired. Mr. FixIt bought some egg salad for sandwiches but I didn’t even want that. After my rest break, I went out and moved the new camper around to the back of the house. It’s convenient in the winter time to have it by the building where we can keep an eye on it and plug it into the bigger outlet. But once summer comes, I like having it out in the field. And now, with the old hybrid gone, the only thing left out there that needs to go is Mr. FixIt Junior’s old Chevy S-10. Then I can FINALLY have the little campground I envisioned three years ago! I don’t know when we’ll have time to put in an electric pole, or even IF we will since we’re considering downsizing and moving closer to town. But I can have friends come down and “boondock”…camping without any of the frills like electricity. We do have water and shower access.
The fella who took the camper today said he thought he smelled a copperhead. I don’t know if any of you have smelled this particular poisonous snake or not, but they put off a smell like cucumbers. He said it was really strong out where he was hooking up the camper…which of course is very near where I was writing this post last night! Snakes don’t necessarily scare me, but I’m not fond of the poisonous variety. There are wasps nesting in the engine compartment of the S-10…yet another reason to get it moved out of here. They were swarming all around me when I was mowing and they can be aggressive. I remember going across the road to check the mail at Grandma’s farm when I was a teenager. I opened the door to the mailbox and there was a nest of bees that attacked me as I ran. They stung my hands and my back. It was decidedly unpleasant and I don’t care to have a repeat performance.
Today is a less strenuous day. We need to do a little laundry, a little packing, and finish straightening up the living room, dust and vacuum. Then we can hop in the truck and head for the beach on Friday! We have someone to watch the kitty, I have my knitting packed, and I get to see the Girl Campers at their Camporee. Beach time with the fam, toes in the sand. It’s going to be a great vacation!
