We didn’t do a heck of a lot yesterday. I worked on the quilt some. I now have three rows of eight blocks pieced. Once I get all sixty-four completed, I can lay them out and make sure I arrange them in a pleasing way. Then I can piece them all together, make the borders, then it can go to the machine quilter to be completed at her leisure. And I can get back to knitting!
Mr. FixIt loves Louisa the Lincoln! So much so that he searched the internet high and low to find a replacement piece for the top part of the grill…the part that connects to the hood. It was surprisingly affordable and it sure makes the car look shiny and new. He took off the old piece yesterday and put the new on and took me out to look at his handiwork. Great job, babe!
I took a break in the early afternoon and drove to town to buy some groceries. Some of the kids are coming today for a cookout and I wanted to make sure I had enough food. The guys are going to measure so we can order the supplies to put on a new roof. Hopefully we can get that done before winter. We’re just going to have hamburgers and smoked sausages and assorted cream salads like macaroni, potato, and cole slaw.
I also bought a big pork butt roast and put it in the slow cooker. I am going to use half of it to make pork green chili and the other half can be frozen in servings big enough for two to pull out later on for sandwiches or whatever. I bought a huge container of strawberries and I’ll bake sugar biscuits for strawberry shortcake for dessert. You make sugar biscuits the same as regular, but you add a little sugar and vanilla to the dough and top the biscuits with decorator sugar crystals. Perfect for little individual shortcakes.
I think we are getting close to the end of pool season. We really didn’t get a chance to use it much this summer. It seemed to take forever to get the chemicals just right and we were always cleaning it. It’s more trouble than it’s worth, honestly…but the kids love it and it is nice to get in after a hot day mowing. So I suppose we’ll keep it up another year.
Once I got the pork roast in the slow cooker, I read some of the paperwork on the sewing machine and serger while we watched a back episode of America’s Got Talent. Mr. FixIt was thrilled that college football is back although I fail to be enthralled. I do like to go to the games, but only on that cusp between “OMG I’m dying of the heat!” and “I can’t feel my toes!” Too far either way and I’m not interested.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

“put on a new roof” has me worried. Please, let the pros do it!
Oh, no way would we do that. But our boys can. They’re young and skilled! ?
