I did it! I changed the oil on my truck all by myself! Well, ok…I watched a YouTube video and my fix-it friend sat there and watched and answered any questions. There was some question as to which bolt was the plug to the oil pan so he got down under the truck with me. We consulted the video again (he’s not familiar with Fords) and once we agreed I had the right bolt, I was on my own. Next, I had the hardest time trying to find the oil filter. I went back to the video and figured that out. I was pleased I had the strength to turn the oil plug and the filter to remove them. All told, the whole thing was done in 45 minutes. I did have to buy an oil pan and a filter wrench for the first change, but after this, I can change my oil myself for $35. And that’s using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic oil. I use that because I tow the camper and it’s better for the truck. The same thing would cost at least $80. If I would have known how easy it was, I would have done this myself all along! I felt SO accomplished! I didn’t get greasy and dirty. It was easy peasy. I have been gifted by God with abilities to learn and do mechanical things. I can’t take the credit for that.
I went to the hardware store to get a dryer vent cover to keep the birds from nesting in the vent tube. When I got it home, I realized the cover that is on there is attached and couldn’t be removed. Upon further inspection, I could see there was a metal flap in there that is supposed to close down on the opening when the dryer isn’t running. I got a flashlight and could see there was a great deal of lint and old wasp nests holding the flap open. I got a long, skinny screw driver and cleaned out years worth of impacted lint and now it closes fine. No more birdies in the dryer vent!!!
On my way home from the hardware store, I stopped at the cemetery. I had decorated the graves for Mother’s Day and Memorial Day before I left for Florida. But, when I went yesterday, the flowers for Grandma and Pop-Pop’s graves were gone. The rest were there but not my grandparent’s. That chaps me…the lowest of the low to deface and steal in cemeteries. I’ll replace them this week.
That was my day. We will soon be “knee deep in June” here at the farm. People are putting up hay so I’m sneezing my head off, even with my allergy meds. Ahhh, this too shall pass. The melons are getting good flavor. It won’t be long till there are fresh green beans and tomatoes at the produce stands. Life is oh so good here on Marshmallow Ranch! ❤️
“Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.”

Good for you, accomplished and independent woman. It’s always something great about learning new things.
And at the end the competence comes from God …

Dear M Rancher,
Just a thought, but perhaps the grounds keeper at your cemetery cleared flowers for mowing/clean up purposes?
Love reading your messages!!
There are three other graves in the family plott that still had their flowers so I don’t think that’s it. Thanks for your kind words. ❤️
Congratulations on your new mechanical skills!

I love that you are striking out on your own with these new “adventures”. I still pay that $80 to have my oil changed. The little things add up over time. Something else to think about as I near retirement age. Love reading your stories!
