Yesterday, Mr. FixIt and I were having breakfast when he picked up his phone to show me something. He watches Facebook Marketplace closely because, you know, you never know when you might need one more thing, right? Anyway, there was an ad in there for a 1969 Shasta Compact camper. Swoon! Anyone who knows anything about campers knows Shasta is kind of a status symbol for campers. This particular one was being converted into a food trailer, but it’s too small for the job so the people are trying to unload it. It’s gutted already, no leaks, towable, new tires, and only $500. Not bad.
We contacted the gal and as one might imagine, she already has people coming to look at it, so the chance of me even getting to see it are pretty slim. And, like I need another project! Anyway, if I get to see it, I’ll take pics and show you.
Thinking about tiny little campers got me to looking at vintage camping art and photos. Look at this tiny little camper. Now, look at how many people there are camping. Wow! It’s like one of those clown cars where clowns keep coming out one after another! Cars were a lot heavier and more powerful back then so you would see the family car pulling a really big trailer. Do you remember the movie Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz made called The Long, Long, Long Trailer? It was huge but they pulled it with a convertible!
I never camped as a kid, but I remember going over to a friend’s house and they had a camper. Us kids were allowed to go in it and use it like a playhouse. I remember being absolutely mesmerized by it and I wanted one in the worst way. I was always married to non-campers till Mr. FixIt came along. Now we have four campers between us and I am preparing to convert an old minivan into a mini campervan. Oh yeah…I REALLY need another camper! ?♀️

“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’”
Luke 14:28-30 ESV
Hahaha, loved The Long Long Trailer! It seemed like a good idea to collect one rock from every place that you visited! And Lucy trying to cook while Ricky drove, my sister and I would just laugh and laugh! Thanks for bringing back that memory, we always wanted our parents to buy a camper after that movie!
❤️
I have wanted small camper but hubby says we have enough projects to keep us busy!
?
I grew up not camping. But 6 months after Greg and I were married he took me on a float/camping trip. We didn’t have a tent, slept on the ground. Second, nite out a copperhead came to visit. We went home and bought a tent. I loved it. Our girls still talk about the camping and floating we did. They have some great memories. Of course, we now have a real camper. I love it even more. (And they do to, when they get to go with us.)

I just bought a trailer and joined Sisters on the Fly. I can’t wait to start meeting people. I didn’t buy a vintage one, but I love them. I’m too afraid of having it break down and don’t have time to work in one, but someday maybe ❤️
The vintage ones are a lot of work and can be as expensive, if not moreso, than a nice new one. They are awfully cute though. ❤️
