I spent the day with Big yesterday. There’s something magical when you break through the barriers of a twelve-year-old who is entirely too cool for you. She’s not into tent camping. I’ll be lucky to get her out in TOW-Wanda next time I bring her. A tent would push her over the edge. Her mommy was the same way. If she couldn’t plug in her curling iron, she wasn’t interested. Then she went off to college and did a ten day rafting trip down the Colorado River and about blew my mind.
Since I’m taking Little camping next week, I told Big we would have a special day this weekend and do whatever she wanted. She chose to visit the Denver Aquarium. Then we went to lunch at PF Chang’s and sat out on the deck overlooking the mountains. After lunch, we went to Park Meadows mall. It’s the biggest mall in the Denver Metro area and we got quite a workout. We had to take a break for ice cream, of course. We did back-to-school shopping. OMGosh! I totally forgot how much fun shopping with a pre-teen girl is!
Big was at swim practice at 8:00 yesterday morning so between that and shopping and full tummies, we were pooped by 4:00 in the afternoon so we headed home. She was asleep before we hit the interstate. When we got home, there was the obligatory fashion show for her mom. Then…she melted my heart. She came and sat in my lap and cuddled for a while. So sweet. So appreciative. So grown up yet still a little girl. It was a precious, precious moment I will always cherish because they grow way too fast, don’t they?
