It’s starting to feel like Groundhog Day around here. Every single day is the same old thing…coffee, breakfast, dishes, 2nd cuppa, snack, dinner, dishes, snack…all to the accompaniment of SNOW. I’m over it already. I haven’t seen grass this year. Everything is 100 shades of white.
The world goes quiet when it snows. I like quiet. I remember snowshoeing in foot deep powder at night in the mountains of Colorado. The snow made a sound like bacon frying in the other room…a soft hisssssss. That and the sound of my snowshoes swooshing forward with every step was a meditation. The air so crisp and cold your nose hairs froze. This was in the days before portable electronics dominated our every move. You could get away, deep in the woods, and not another soul around save for a little ermine hopping across the open spance, the little black tip on the end of his tail the only way to discern it from the snow.
I’ve noticed far less traffic in the last couple of weeks. School has been out or delayed because of snow and low temperatures so there aren’t as many folks out and about. We’re all hibernating at this time of the year. I know sitting in the Big Red Chair and crocheting or knitting seems to me the only thing I can get done…besides baking and cleaning the kitchen. It’s ok…it won’t be long till we’ll be spending the days outside in the hot sun, mowing and keeping up with the outdoor maintenance. Still…I’m kinda done with the snow thing.
January is SOOOOOOOOOOO long!

“From its chamber comes the whirlwind, and cold from the scattering winds. By the breath of God ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen fast.”
Job 37:9-10 ESV
Gratitude Journal
Today I am grateful for people who speak of the Lord as an example of the values we should seek in this life…even in the face of consternation of others. It is a sign of quiet strength and obedience to do that.
