Napping in the Rest Stop

So, it’s 90 degrees, you’ve been driving four HOURS, you’ve snacked on everything within reach in the cab of your truck, and it’s nap time. What do you do? Why, you pull into this beautiful shaded rest area by a lake, put up the window shades, crack the windows, lay your seat back, put your hat brim down over your face…and snooze for an hour. After you lock the doors, of course. Safety first, you know!

A fairly uneventful day. I left Topeka by 8:30 and a little after crossing the Mississippi River, my speedometer dropped to zero, my odometer readout went blank, and my cruise control stopped…but everything else was working fine. I asked Siri to take me to the nearest Ford dealer. Twenty-five miles later, I pull into Farina, Illinois at 4:29. They close at 4:30! The nice young man ran a diagnostic and there is a sensor in the transmission that tells the speedometer how fast it’s going. It misfired but when they started it back up, it reset itself. They said there’s nothing dangerous to it and if it happens again, just pull over, turn the truck off and restart it. It will reset automatically and then get it fixed when I get home. Thank you, God! Nothing dangerous. Nothing expensive.

Still really hot in the middle of the breadbasket of the Midwest. As I write this, I’m sitting in a Bob Evans in Terra Haute having breakfast for dinner. I deserve a little comfort food! I could drive on in if I want. It’s not that much further. I’ll let you know when I get home!
