National Widows Day sprung from Widow Wednesday…a grassroots program designed to assist widows and widowers in the community with small tasks normally completed by the late spouse. Widow Wednesday was originally founded by Jimmy Chouteau, a Kansas City insurance agent. Part of his job was working with retirees, many of whom were left on their own and were struggling to do things around the house while also dealing with grief. Sometimes it was as easy as screwing in a lightbulb or helping write checks. And sometimes it was just spending some time in conversation. Jimmy and his family took time form is busy insurance agency to devote Wednesdays to assisting widows and widowers in need.
In the spirit of Widow Wednesday and National Widows Day, reach out to a widow or widower in your life today. Ask them if there is anything you can do today to help them out. And, if there isn’t, ask him/her out for coffee or dinner. Take them a potted plant. Or just sit on the porch and visit a bit. Then, take some time every Wednesday to check in and help out wherever you can. You never know how much you can help someone coping with grief just by showing up and listening and letting them know they are not forgotten. It’ll warm your heart. ❤
“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ “”
Acts 20:35 ESV

Never knew about this day. It would have been nice 30yrs. Ago when I was suddenly put into this group.❤️❤️❤️
❤️
I didn’t know about National Widows Day. I have a neighbor who took care of my grass cutting and anything else I needed for three years ( until I remarried).
I did too, Pam! Good neighbors are such a gift. ❤️
God bless all who help widows. I became one 10 months ago. Its the hardest thing anyone can ever go through and alone is even harder
My heart is with you, dear one. ❤️
I host an event in Texas each year for widows, any idea how I can spread the word? Thanks Nicole
Send me the details and I’ll see what I can do. ?
