On the road between Creede and Lake City, CO is an innocuous little turnoff for Clear Creek Falls. As you turn into the parking lot, you can see a small creek meandering through the fields. But come closer and you see a great gash in the earth and this small stream goes crashing headlong over the cliff with a mighty roar.
I can see a metaphor here for the changes that come in life, specifically loss. Life meanders along, still and smooth, till the ground drops out from under you and you are thrust over a cliff, landing on the rocks below. Life roars all around you with dizzying speed making you frightened to step from the relative safety of the rocks into the rapids below. But you have two choices because you can’t go back up. You can buy real estate and stay in the dizzying roar of the falls. Or you can take a leap of faith and jump into the current. Your old life is back at the top of the falls. Your current situation has you in an uncomfortable position on the rock amidst the roar of the rushing water. And as scary as it may be, your new life after loss is waiting for you downstream. But, have faith. God/Spirit/Universe will catch you! Once that cleansing water rushes over you, you can have a beautiful new life filled with happiness and hope.
Here…take my hand. Let’s jump in together, shall we?
