Oh, What A Beautiful Day!

OMGosh! On a day like yesterday, all you can do is praise God for his artistry! I’m at the farm to work on the computer since the internet is lightning fast. And, I needed to get the lawn mowed for the very last time of the season. I always breathe a king-sized sigh of relief when it’s over for a few months. I don’t mind adding this yard to my list of chores to do every week. It’s my payment for the privilege of staying here whenever I want.

When I went out to start the mower, I was afraid it might not turn over. It is a little persnickety if you haven’t started it for a couple of weeks. And this had been awhile… maybe three weeks or so? It only took two or three cranks till the ol’ John Deere came to life and I set to mulching up what seemed to be every downed leaf in the county. When the leaves are so deep you’re just pushing them along, you need to run back and forth over them to kinda mash them down so they’ll go under the mower deck. Even with that, I had to mow over the entire yard twice to mulch everything down.

When it’s done it looks so beautiful. Especially in the late afternoon sun when everything takes on a golden glow. It’s supposed to start raining today and get cooler so it was the last chance I would get to mow before the leaves turn to a flat layer of detritus that resembles leather. That can kill the grass and this house sits in a little holler. It doesn’t get much light as it is and stays wet. A layer of wet leaves would further deteriorate the creek bank as it would never dry out. It’s sinking down pretty bad the last few years. Frank and Beans should be here this afternoon. I hope they’ll get a chance to stop in for a quick visit. They’re the sweetest people.

You remember my dear friend Sparky who died a couple of years ago? Well, her son is a well tender in this neck of the woods and when I was out mowing, I saw him checking a well across the road. I turned off the mower and we had a nice roadside chat. It’s been almost two years since his mom died and then he lost his uncle this spring and his dad shortly after. He’s had a heck of a couple of years, but I was glad to see him doing so well. He looks so much like his mom it’s not funny. I just stared at his face and mannerisms while he talked and felt a little closer to Sparky, even if it was just for a few moments.

You can see a video of these creatures on my YouTube Channel HERE.

I swept the front porch and inside the house and got rid of a bunch of Asian Lady Beetles. I’m kind of amazed I didn’t see a single stink bug. As a matter of fact, there aren’t a lot of them at this house this year either. Maybe it just hasn’t been cold enough yet. The weather will be turning chilly again as the week progresses and I sure hope they get the part in for the furnace soon. We need to get that fixed in a hurry.

Hey, have any of you used Zenni or any of the other eyeglass shops on the internet? I bought my first pair about three years ago maybe and my prescription changed this time. I went online and shopped. I bought a pair of pretty glasses with progressive bifocals with a wide angle along with a new carrying case and two pairs of clip on sunglasses…one for night driving and one for sunglasses. Grand total? $128.93 including tax and shipping! The cheapest glasses I could find in the optometric shop was $250 and that didn’t have any of the extras. Zenni offers a 10% senior discount, too! I’m all about getting the best I can for my money. I’ll let you know how they turn out!

It should rain today, so I’m planning on sitting here in Grandma’s chair, in front of her window and watch the world go by. It’s awfully nice to have this peace and quiet. NO TV!!! I hope you’re having a good week!
