First, there’s the getting up and going issue…something neither of us are necessarily good at. Then there’s the packing up the camper, tucking everything away, and hitching up. There’s always a stop at the Golden Arches for some iced tea and breakfast sandwiches. This time there was a prescription to pick up at Wally World. And finally, a stop at a rest area on the way where we dump our tanks and fill up with fresh water.
Man, the days are getting shorter fast, aren’t they? I was out in the camper at 7:00 last night to put some things away for our upcoming trip and it was nearly dark already. This time of year seems to just sneak up on you, doesn’t it? I looked at the weather for next week, thinking we might squeeze in a few more camping days, but it’s going to be colder next week than this one. And this one is going to be cold enough. I wish we could have found this camper a month earlier. We would have had a big time in September!
I can’t tell you how many words I’ve written on this blog over the nearly ten years since I started. Millions, I would hazard to guess. I’ve made my fair share of grammatical as well as spelling errors and thankfully, I have wonderful friends who send me private messages to let me know of an error. That’s because they know errors make me crazy.
The latest issue of Girl Camper Magazine arrived last week! You can subcribe to this beautiful award-winning magazine >>> here <<<
We went to our eldest great-grandchild’s birthday party at the skating rink yesterday. What a hoot! There were a whole bunch of littles there and more kids were just running around chasing each other on the skate floor than were actually skating. That’s because they were five. They could move a lot faster without wheels!
I’m one of those who want comfort first. I don’t play that game of “let’s see how long we can go before we turn on the furnace.” Why? Because, I know what I want. That being said, Mr. FixIt and I have two entirely different thermostats. If it is June and it’s 70 degrees in the house…Mr. FixIt thinks it’s too hot. Gotta turn on the AC! However, if it’s October and it’s 70 degrees in the house, it’s too cold. Gotta turn on the furnace!
We were supposed to go home today, but we decided to leave yesterday afternoon after looking at the weather reports. There was rain heading our way from the remnants of Hurricane Ian and, given the small leak we found in the wheel well on Wednesday, we felt it was best to drive home while it was dry.
We lazed around the campsite yesterday morning. I fixed sausage and eggs and heated up some leftover corn cakes for breakfast. Mr. FixIt looked on his phone to see what was nearby. The largest state park in Pennsylvania is only eight miles from here so we picked up around camp and headed to explore.
I don’t think there is a camper made that doesn’t have a tiny leak somewhere. The trick is to catch them early, find out where they came from, and fix it right away before there’s any damage done. We left home yesterday morning around noon. The sky looked threatening, but the forecast said there would only be light rain from time to time. That was true for the most part. But we did come through a could of really hard rains (and LOTS of rainbows) and there was a lot of splash up from the road.
There was a time when the memories of Mr. Virgo and me that pop up on FB would make me cry. They don’t any more. Nearly always, they make me smile. They bring a flood of warmth and a reminder of what an amazing life I lead…then and now. These are good things. This shows healing, grace, mercy, and personal growth.
I love to drive…especially on a day when the sky is blue with big white, puffy clouds. The temps were cool, there was a breeze, and the trees were beginning to put on their royal robes to show off. We went to the dealership to pick up the Big Birdhouse, but there was something else on it that needed fixing so it’ll be a little while longer.
