Bring More Joy

We stayed in a hotel in Columbus Saturday night after getting Bear on the plane. I stayed at the gate till I was sure the flight was in the air, then we drove to a local hotel. It was near sunset by the time we were done at the airport and I didn’t want to drive all the way home in the dark. Those corn fields in Ohio are just brimming with deer who think nothing of darting out into traffic. So, we felt it was safer to just stay up there.

Back to Mr. FixIt

My poor sweetie has played second fiddle for two weeks while Little was here. We did things together…sure. But he had to share and he’s not used to that. We drove to Columbus to take Little to the airport. I was able to accompany them to the gate and wait till the plane took off and there’s a great website where you can actually watch the plane fly across the country on a map in real time. As I’m writing this, they are 180 miles away from DIA. The things they can do these days!

Day Fourteen: See Ya Next Time!

Little on the floor, scrubbing that lovely piece of linoleum!

It has been a fun two weeks, but Little is ready to get home. Big will be leaving for college soon so they need to spend some quality time together. Everyone will be happy to get their Little Bear home, safe and sound.

Day Thirteen Was The BEST Day!

The scary metal Mothman scupture with the creepy eyes!

According to Little, yesterday was the BEST day yet! We had a couple of lay low days and a couple of really busy canning days so they were more than ready to get out for an adventure! I went in and did the wakey-wakey thing and got dressed and pretty soon we were out and about…looking for something to get into!

Day Twelve Was Just Plain Nice

I told Mr. FixIt on Tuesday night…”I’m not doin’ nuthin’ tomorrow!” And I pretty much meant it. I worked so hard Monday and Tuesday on those beans, I decided Little and I would just have a lay low day. We pretty much accomplished that. “Grandpa FixIt” went to town for an appointment and to the the funeral home for the visitation for an old employee, so Little and I just hung out here at home.

Day Eleven Was Heaven

Little works in the kitchen, filling jars with green beans.

Who hasn’t wanted to share their favorite things with their grandchild? It’s one of the greatest gifts in the world when a grandchild shares your interests. Little and I are two peas in a pod. I was a little disappointed on Monday when they only lasted an hour on the canning beans job. Then, I learned…it wasn’t the chore itself but the act of getting pruny hands and the icky sensation of that. The tapping of the jars. The noise and sensation was too much stimulus for Little. So we regrouped and came up with a solution.

Day Ten Was SO Peaceful

It was a pleasant valley Sunday in our neck of the woods. We. Did. Nothing. That’s what God tells us to do on His day, right? We got the mowing done during the week. We changed our travel plans to stay home. The Big Birdhouse is in the Camper Hospital so no camping. And besides…it was WAY too hot to do anything. When it’s even too hot to eat, you know it’s too hot to do much of anything else either.

Day Nine Was Divine!

It was 80° by 9:00 yesterday morning. We needed to get out to the farm to mow before it got too hot but after some of the dew had dried off. It’s a delicate balance. I can be ready to go out the door in two minutes flat. Why is it Mr. FixIt takes for.EV.er??? Mr. Virgo was the same way. He always accused me of pushing him. Good grief…we’re going to MOW, not have an audience with the Queen! Get a move on. My sweetheart has met his match with Little. They were neck and neck getting ready. We left at 11:30. It was heading towards 90°…fast!

Day Eight was SO Great!

Unfortunately, there was a puddle of water in the camper yesterday morning so off she’s gone to the camper hospital!

As you know, we’ve been having some problems with our new camper…the Big Birdhouse. It’s got some leaks and there was a problem with the part that raises and lowers the top plus a few other things. New campers can have bugs that need fixing and it just seems this one has more than her fair share. I’ve been communicating with the dealership, but they weren’t hearing back from the manufacturer so I took matters into my own hands on Thursday. I sent an email to both the dealership and the manufacturer to make sure we were “all on the same page”. Miraculously, within half an hour, I had three emails from the parties involved and things started moving. I was polite, yet firm, and my “shot across the bow” got the attention it needed. Yesterday morning, Little and I emptied out the camper and took it up to the dealership and they will work on it first thing Monday as they have promised to give it priority. We shall see what the next steps will be, but for the time being…we are camperless. *sigh*

Day Seven in Almost Heaven

I attempted to make homemade tortillas for breakfast yesterday. Back in the day, I used a packaged flour mix called “Masa Trigo” that you only had to add water and they made the best tortillas. However, I live in white bread America and those sorts of things are NOT available. I can find the kind to make corn tortillas, but those aren’t my favorite. I found some online, so I will give that a try because the ones I made yesterday didn’t cut it.
