Thou Shalt Not Bully

I was angry last week. Now I’m more angry. I shared a post on my personal Facebook page regarding the decision from SCOTUS that will affect all women. I have my own beliefs about it, and I shared them. A dear friend countered with another perspective as is her right. I didn’t engage…I listened respectfully. Honestly, I didn’t really think any more about it because we were camping and I was trying to stay away from all the angry discourse on social media.

Bippity-Boppity-Blue!

Big has always loved Cinderella…her very favorite Disney Princess. Now she’s all grown up and preparing to head to college in the fall, but that doesn’t mean that particular shade of blue isn’t still her favorite! Au contraire! This was the color of her dress for senior prom. I promised her I’d knit a sweater to take to college with her. She’s heading to the Pacific Northwest and things get pretty chilly up there.

The Girls With The Grandma Faces

We were oh so young when we met. Some of us went all through school together. We played on the playground together in grade school. Yesterday, we reminisced about our memories of when President Kennedy was assassinated…what were we doing, where were we when we found out, whose class were we in? We’ve gone through so much in our lives. We fought together for our rights and freedoms. We come from the same general background but with different upbringings. We love and respect each other…immensely. So, not a single one of us brought up anything remotely controversial yesterday. I don’t think a single one of us have our heads in the sand, but after the week we’ve collectively had, we just needed each other’s company. An unspoken bond held together with time and love and coffee.

Back Home and Back to Work

We camped at Beaver Creek State Park near East Liverpool, Ohio this week. It’s one of our favorite campgrounds, largely because my dear friend Gail is sometimes the camp host there. She isn’t hosting again till fall, but she was supposed to come camp with us at least one night. Unfortunately, she was a little under the weather this week so we had to take a rain check on the visit. We still had an amazing time, as always.

You KNOW I Can’t Stay Away!

We are having a grand time camping in one of our favorite state parks in the whole wide world. But, I’m telling you what…it is H.O.T. We have an air conditioner that will freeze meat but it is located under the bed I sleep in. Have I ever told you I’m a light sleeper? Well, this thing is kinda like what I would imagine sleeping on top of a jet engine would sound and feel like. The bed vibrates and it’s so loud and it switches off and on with the thermostat. The first night here was so nice and cool in the high 50’s. Tuesday night? Not so much! The only way to sleep was with the AC running and I was awake all night.

Somebody Bring Me a Bottle!

Be still, my heart…this green!

No…I’m not looking for a drink. I gave that up twenty-one plus years ago. What I want is a bottle that I can preserve this day in. Some way to put it on a shelf and save it up for January. Honestly, it could not have been a more beautiful day. With a high of 74° and a clear bluebird sky with a lovely breeze and brilliant sunshine, the green was so intense it almost hurt your eyes!

‘Maters and Berries and Emancipation

At least once a week…too often more…we have to run to town and do errands. With the price of gas, we try to hold all errands to that one day if at all possible. I think we’ll probably have to start grouping our medical appointments to cut back on drives into town. A round trip including errands all over town can easily rack up thirty, forty…even fifty miles. When you get around 16 miles per gallon and your gas costs upwards of $5 a gallon, it pays to collate your errand list into as efficient a circuit as possible.

Taking a Stroll Down Memory Lane

I didn’t sleep well again. Although the little AirB&B is incredibly comfortable and blissfully quiet, it wasn’t my bed. And I missed my sweetie. So, when I heard there was a risk of severe weather again, I decided to knit for a while with Gail then head home. After all, we’ll be camping with her Monday, so I’ll get to see her again soon.

Tux Has a Brand New Ball

Border collies are a special breed. Gail’s border collie is named Tennessee Tuxedo…Tux for short. Smart, attentive, and full of life with oodles of love to give their chosen people, this guy is the epitome of the breed. When I first arrived on Tuesday, he was hesitant. He kept his ears back and his tail low. He walked back and forth and bristled his ruff. He growled. But at the same time, his eyes looked to Gail for reassurance that everything was ok. She assured him I was a friend.

A Bang Up Birthday!

Pumpkin is all grown up…she’s a jungle cat!

I’m so glad we got the mowing finished on Sunday because yesterday was so hot. Mr. FixIt went to the tomato patch to weed it then stopped on the way home for a watermelon. I would rather have a watermelon than a birthday cake, but it’s a little early in the year and this one was kind of mushy. But it was cold and that’s what I was aiming for.
