Patience

iWatch...breathe

I used to pray for patience till I read somewhere that God responds with scenario after scenario in which He challenges you to be patient. I don’t really believe that is true but I don’t want to risk it so I don’t pray for patience anymore. Anyone who knows me, even remotely, knows I am not always a very patient person. I can be, but when too many things come at me at once, I lose my grip and get way too cranked up. Yesterday was just such a day.

Remember the cute little feral kitty that showed up at Thanksgiving unannounced? Well, she’s grown into a perfectly beautiful cat and happily announced the last couple of weeks that she is lookin’ for love in all the wrong places. Poor Boy Cat is doing his best to accommodate her, but he’s been fixed and the whole thing is a somewhat comical exercise in futility. I’ve known for a while I was going to have to trap said kitty and get her fixed, but she will NOT let you anywhere near her. She’s never been touched. I got home late Tuesday night and she was really hungry. I saw this as my window of opportunity, let her eat a tiny bit, then moved her dish into the live trap. She only hesitated for a moment before she went in for supper and the trap did its job. My heart was pounding out of my chest because she was SO freaked out. I almost caved and let her out. I knew that would be my only opportunity to trick her so I tucked her safely under the camper to keep her dry from the rain and covered the cage to keep her as calm as I could. I told her good night and turned out the lights.

I got up early yesterday to take the kitty to the vet. I needed to bring my truck title to the insurance agent later and I knew “exactly where it was”…except, it wasn’t there. I tore through everything. I came across a folder from three years ago when I got my license plates here in WV but I dismissed that because I “knew” they couldn’t be in there. I expressed my frustration to one of my friends when I was reminded by said friend that I had to have gotten new titles when I moved to WV. Brilliant…they’re in that folder! I looked back through everything and do you think I could find that folder again??? Noooooo! Breathe. Breathe.

At this point I have a very hungry, ticked off cat in a cage under my camper and the clock is ticking so I gave up, loaded up the cat (who is now peeing all over the place) into the RENTAL car for the hour long trip into town. After dropping Grumpy Cat off at the vet, I headed to the DMV to find out what I could do about the title. Oh, did I mention I spent three hours there on Tuesday getting the tags for my camper renewed? Sigh. Praise upon praise, it turns out that for a mere three hours more of my time, I could get a duplicate title there and not have to make a drive to Charleston or wait several days for copies to arrive in the mail.

As I was sitting at the DMV, I got a call from the vet. Turns out MISS Kitty is a MISTER! In my defense, I never got close enough to see. My perception of reality has shifted yet again.

I’ll keep practicing patience…but, I don’t know if I’ll ever get it right. ?
