Patience

My travel friend and I broke camp yesterday morning, had breakfast with the camp hosts, then headed for a day of sightseeing around Custer State Park and Mt. Rushmore. As we were heading into the Wildlife Loop, we came to an abrupt stop at the first tunnel. No one was coming out of the narrow one-lane passage and there were several cars and a couple dozen people standing there looking in. I looked around and there were obviously frustrated people throwing up their hands and motioning for people to get out of the way. They were this close to honking, I swear. So, we realized there had to be more to this story than we could see.

I jumped out, camera in hand, and headed for the opening to the tunnel and caught this family of mountain goats deciding whether or not they were going to fight the car to get to the other side. My friend jumped out and headed for the opposite side of the parking area to catch the views. We met back at the car in five minutes and excitedly shared what we had seen…all while others were still shaking their fists at each other over this inconvenience.

The moral of this story is, you’re on vacation. Breathe. Look beyond what’s right under your nose…you never know what you’re going to be blessed with!

“The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.”

Ecclesiastes 7:8-9
