My Salvaged Shelf from Mr. FixIt
I was so relieved when I got to talk to my brother last evening. He sounded so much stronger. He really wanted to go home yesterday, but the doctor wanted to keep him one more night and watch his kidneys. He’s not a big water drinker, so it’s going to be a challenge encouraging his intake. I think avoiding the hospital might be a big motivator! He did really well, he was well cared for, and Daughter #1 visited him twice. Thank you all for your prayers…we felt every one.
Now that the farm has sold, there’s very little I need to bring home…maybe two trips. It was such a lovely evening we decided to hop in the truck, stop for a cold bottle of pop, and go for a drive with the windows down. It was the perfect temperature and letting the wind blow through my hair, the smell of the woods and newly mown hay fields, and a peace in my heart made for a soothing ride. We ran into Charlotte as we were pulling into the drive so she pulled in after us and chatted for a while. She was also excited about the new owners of the farm. We didn’t stay too long, but on our way out of the drive, we stopped and visited with the neighbor across the road and told him of his new neighbors. Everyone is really happy because Frank and Beans are the nicest couple you’d want to meet.
Grandma’s Apron and a Quilt from a Dear Friend
I spent the day working on my next projects. I’ve been wanting a shelving unit for my jars of home canned produce so I don’t have to take it all downstairs. With covid, we didn’t have people coming into the house for visits, so all those beautiful jars of food just sat on the dining room table. I wanted them to be where I could see them…because they are so pretty to look at. Mr. FixIt was moving things around in the building the other day and found a tall bookcase that wasn’t too deep for the spot I wanted to put it. He cleaned it up, oiled the wood, and painted a thin board to nail to the back. We cleared out the hallway to the front door we never use, and place the bookcase in such a way it wouldn’t impede egress should we need to escape out that way. It looks perfect!
Yellow Iris at the Ponderosa
The next step is going through the things we moved into the office when they put the carpet down. I don’t want all that “stuff” out in the family room cluttering it up. We put the wooden rocking chairs out on the front porch. And I’ve been going through bags and boxes, creating a bag of papers that I need to shred. These jobs are things we all do, and sometimes they get pushed to the burner one to many times. Then we just have to break down and get them done.
Grandma’s Rhododendron
I have a goal. The girls will be here June 25th. I want this whole floor of the house cleaned and organized. Our daughter and son-in-law are coming out tomorrow to help. The boys will finish up the electric line to the deck and us girls will work on the bedrooms. I don’t want to just move things from one place to another. I want to clear out things. I read somewhere…cleaning things out means to touch it once. You either put it in its place, or you haul it out the door. I vote for hauling a LOT out the door!
A Quilt I Painted
So, as I write this, I’m breathing a lot easier. I will feel even better when my brother gets home safe and sound. He still has a three hour ride home today after they discharge him from the hospital. We are SO blessed by the staff in the program he is a client with. They truly go above and beyond to care for people and I love them for that. It takes a great load off my shoulders to know he is so well loved.

Sounds great! Enjoy your time with family!!
