Reflections

When the air is very still and there is no boat traffic, the surface of this river is like glass. It’s such a magical place. To quote a friend’s daughter on his retired lifestyle, “I could be as Zen as **** if I didn’t have to work!” It’s true. This has been such an amazing time for me and I am honored to have this opportunity to live and play and write here.

A friend of mine is camping near me this weekend. That has been a treat to sit around and talk till dark, feeling the heat of the day turn the corner towards twilight. I love watching the river traffic. Besides the usual barges, there are plenty of pleasure craft flying up and down.

I left the AC on in the camper while I was out talking last night. I came back to get yogurt and strawberries for dessert and it was so cold in here you could have hung meat! I turned it off and opened the windows then it was delightful. I just don’t like the noise of a fan anymore.

Funny, my mom weighed heavy on my mind yesterday. I kept envisioning her in her chair in the corner, working on her beloved genealogy. This is about the time of year when I brought the kids home for a visit. And it was always so humid and hot. Exercise must be accomplished early now. I don’t tolerate heat like I used to. It’s weird the things that change as you…ripen!

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
