My sweetheart…enjoying the good life he deserves.

HokeySmokes, y’all…there’s so much to tell. I’m going to have to do a daily synopsis!

Monday

Camped under the Silver Maples

We kinda took our time on Monday. We had a nice breakfast, then we started getting stuff out to the camper…mostly Mr. FixIt’s stuff because my stuff was still in there. We hit the road around 3:00, I guess. We had to stop for gas first, then our favorite rest area to dump the tanks. We stopped in Marietta to pick up some groceries for the trip and headed on to the campground. We neither one slept well because we forgot how noisy it is up there between the trains, the state highway across the river, and the tugboats pushing the barge up and down.

One of my wonderful bonus sons…I didn’t have to raise them or feed them. I just get to enjoy them and love them.

Tuesday

A lovely, leisurely breakfast and time fishing. The kids came up and brought some food and the guys fished for awhile and we sat around the campfire till they had to get home. Really, it was very peaceful and relaxing.

Wednesday

Mr. FixIt went on a search for a place to fill the propane tank that we use for the gas campfire ring and I stayed at the camper and knitted. It was such a pleasant day, and I hadn’t had a chance to just sit and look at the river. We went for walks every day and there were more campers coming in Wednesday in preparation for the weekend. I love talking to people from all around. There was a couple from nearby Marietta who always come camping during the week for the same reason we do…it’s quiet and peaceful. They had the most beautiful Bernedoodle named Ruby. While we were talking, the gal who was camping in a little tiny teardrop camper returned from her daily visits to the many glass museums in the area. I was anxious to ask her about her camper.

Rustic Trails Teardrop Camper…SO cute! (Note to Kathy: “Get yourself a hitch lock, hon. Please don’t leave this little sweet thing in a campground all on her own for the day. I’d hate to see you lose her!”)

Kathy and I sat and visited for quite awhile. She showed me the camper and in the course of our conversation, she revealed that she used to be a Diabetes Educator which is what I used to do a gazillion years ago. It’s such a small world, isn’t it? Mr. FixIt and I ended the day sitting quietly around our little “campfire”, drinking a cup of tea and watching the moon turn pumpkin orange as it slipped under the western horizon. It was a very good day.

Thursday

Something I didn’t tell you was one of my mom’s cousins died of covid last weekend and his viewing and funeral were Thursday. I had told them I couldn’t come because we would be out of town so I sent flowers. Then, when I woke up that morning and we happened to have a little cell service, I looked on the map and the town was only 35 minutes away! Mr. FixIt didn’t have the proper attire, but I essentially keep a closet in the back of our Super Crew Cab F-150 so I was prepared for most anything. I dug around and found something appropriate to wear, left Mr. FixIt to go fishing, and headed over to pay my respects and represent our branch of the family. When I got back, we started getting things ready for supper because the kids were coming back up and I told them I’d cook this time. We grilled chicken and had fresh corn on the cob and sliced tomatoes. We sat around the “campfire” again and watching the stars. It was a long day. It’s a shame our reunions are at funerals now, isn’t it? I’m going to do something about that.

Friday

Time to head home. We had breakfast and started stowing things away for the trip. We stopped at the same dump station to empty our tanks and were back home by mid-afternoon. On the drive home, I told Mr. FixIt we should go back into Parkersburg later and get our Covid vaccines, which we did. We’ve always had Moderna, but it wasn’t available yet so we took the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at Sam’s. We were assured there wouldn’t be a problem mixing them. Pro tip: if you take a couple of Extra Strength Tylenol before you have your vaccine, it really lessons the site reaction. When we left Sam’s, we went to Volcano Days out at Mountwood Park and walked and walked and walked. They had a big display of hit and miss engines that I just love to hear. They remind me of my childhood when the well tenders would go around and start up the engines and pump the wells for awhile. We got home late Friday night…too late to write a proper post. So here I am. We’re caught up at this point…except for what happened yesterday.

Saturday

We went down near Charleston yesterday morning to meet the gal from FB Marketplace that we bought our new to us cell phone booster from. Easy peasy. Since we were down there, I asked Mr. FixIt if he’d like to go over to Cabela’s and wander around for a while. That was great fun because he taught me all about fishing lures and bait and what kind of fish they attract. Mr. FixIt’s tried and true method of fishing is with worms on a hook with a bobber and you sit in your chair waiting for a bite. I tried it and, no offense sweetheart, but I would rather watch paint dry. To me, it was kinda LIKE watching paint dry. I’m going back to lures and bait. The next stop was Home Goods. Lots more walking and I started feeling really tired. We went on to Target and about halfway through there, I was definitely NOT feeling well. I felt like my feet were full of lead. It felt like I was on a fast elevator down. As a matter fact, I nearly blacked out three times and was seeing stars. We decided I might be having a reaction to the shot so we stopped at the ER nearby and they checked me out. Thankfully, my tests were negative and the doctor agreed it was probably related to the the shot and I was just feeling fatigued. I was also a little dehydrated, but not enough to get an IV. So, they discharged me, we went to get something to eat, and I am very happily staying home today!

So, that’s the skinny on my week.

It’s always an adventure with Ginny McKinney!
