Runnin’ Like a Chicken

The morning dew on the Elephant Ears.

There was a goodly portion of the day yesterday that was pretty laid back. Mr. FixIt had to go to town to get his hair cut. Big to-do this weekend…gotta look good, right? While he was gone, I thought I’d just sit and knit a while…which I did. Then he called and said he found a used car for us and wanted my input. We’ve been wanting to get something that would be lower mileage and get better gas mileage. His old truck has surpassed 200,000 miles and that is not a reliable vehicle should you need to make a long trip. He went by and gave it a test drive. I trust his judgement so today we’ll go pick it up.

A 2002 Lincoln Continental with only 52,000 miles on it. Sweet!

The parts came in for the stove yesterday so I tore into it and got the right control panel installed. The oven works now! Hooray!!! Now I can return the other part and get my money back. I asked Mr. FixIt if he was suitably impressed with my skills. He said, “You’re some kinda woman!” I take it that’s a yes! lol

I gave him a list of things I wanted from town, so when he was on his way home, I started supper. As I was knitting, I watched cooking videos on YouTube. As I thought of a certain food, I looked up how to prepare it. It’s fair season here and that reminded me of the food trucks that sell Navajo Tacos and Navajo Fry Bread out west. I had a package of ground beef in the fridge so I fried it up with taco seasoning, heated up some refried beans, and made fry bread. It’s kinda like a tortilla, only thicker. It’s soft and foldable and makes the BEST tacos! We had some wonderful sweet corn, on the cob…dripping with butter. SO good!

I love doing that kind of cooking from time to time, but man does it ever make a mess! By the time I got it cleaned up, the news was over and it was getting close to time to write. We got one heck of a thunderstorm right about then and it poured so hard, it filled the pool up. The former Mrs. FixIt called to say she was driving through standing water on the city streets and several of the parking lots were full of water. As I write this, storm warnings continue to arrive on my phone.

I’ve made great progress on the sweater. A few more inches on the bottom and I can knit the ribbed edge. I walked around between storms and took some pictures of the flora. Even with all the rain, it was a beautiful day and I feel like I got a lot accomplished. And isn’t that what we are supposed to do every day? Accomplish something that improves our lives and the lives of others? A noble endeavor, indeed.
