Unless my daughter decides to spend the night and head out in the morning, the current plan is to come pick Little up and hit the road. They really want to get back to Colorado to get Big back on her training schedule. And I know they want to sleep in their own beds. They’ve been on the road for a month. We called Daughter #1 to wish her a happy birthday yesterday. Little told her she’d had an awful lot of fun here, but she was ready for her own bed. I totally get that.
Little and I both think two weeks is a perfect visit with Nana. It’s enough time to bond and do fun things, but not so long as to get bored or on each other’s nerves. We’ve decided she’s coming back next summer for a visit. Big will be graduating from high school next spring…and so is the youngest of my bonus grandchildren here in West Virginia. There may be some crossover there so Mr. FixIt and I may be celebrating separately. We’ll know more when the school calendar comes out.
We really didn’t do much yesterday. I mowed in the afternoon but didn’t get very far before a big thunderstorm came in. It rained off and on all afternoon and evening and we are expecting rain every day for the next four days. The grass will REALLY need mowed by the time it dries up enough.
I was sitting in the living room with Mr. FixIt in the early evening when a little spotty fawn came walking by the front door. Little happened to be in the kitchen so I got her attention in time for her to see it. I love that she’s seen so much wildlife here. We wrote a long list of all the special things she got to do while she was here. It’s been such a blessing having her here and the house will be awfully quiet without her.
We drove to town last night to have Chinese food for supper. We picked up our carry out order and took it to a nearby park to watch the fish rising in the little lake…looking for their supper. The mayflies hatched en masse over the 4th of July weekend so they’re probably having a smorgasbord. By the time we finished eating and headed home, we were happy little campers as we congratulated ourselves for a successful visit with our Little Bear! We’ll see her in September!
Please pray for travel mercies for my family.
