What a long, long day! We left home around 10-10:30 yesterday and didn’t pull back in till 8:00 last night. We drove down to Huntington to Setzer’s Camping World owned by my good friend, Lynn Butler. Setzer’s is one of only a handful of RV dealers owned by a woman. And the cool thing is…it used to belong to her mother! And, that was back in the day when women rarely ventured into a traditional “man’s job”, let alone owning her own business.
Like most RV dealers right now, inventory of new RV’s is low. Last year, when everyone was pretty much locked out of public transportation, travel trailer sales skyrocketed as families sought alternative vacations. Add to that the supply chain shortages cause by the pandemic and other unforeseen circumstances, and campers are at a premium.
Just like our decision to stay put on our acreage for now, so to we’ve decided to stick with TOW-Wanda for the time being. We had the roof resealed and a couple of little maintenance things done. We’re putting in the “campground” here at the house where my friends can come and camp with me on our property. And, in a year or two, once things go back to normal, many of those people who rushed out to get new campers will be selling them and we can pick up a nice used one for a reasonable price.
I got some sad news yesterday about one of our dear camping buddies. She was just getting ready to leave today to camp for a few days. She took her camper out of the barn to clean it up and stock it for her trip and, even though she used a hitch lock…her precious camper was stolen just before dawn. She was heartbroken, as anyone who owns and loves a camper can understand. They thought they’d found it in a nearby town, but it was a false alarm. I do hope she gets it back. To add insult to injury, her latest knitting project was inside.
We parked TOW-Wanda beside the building and hooked her up to shore power. We’ll have the girls here in three weeks and, until we can get the power out to the “campground”, we’ll need to use the camper as our bedroom. That way the girls all have comfy beds inside with all the amenities. I haven’t slept in my camper in ages. At least a year ago, I noticed she had a leak and with covid, I couldn’t get her in to get fixed. Now that she’s ship-shape, I couldn’t wait to get out there and “camp”….whether she’s in the field or by the building or wherever. I needed to sleep in my happy place.
It may have been a really long day, but the silver lining is…I’m camping again!!!
