The Roaring Fork Valley on the Western Slope of Colorado used to be a huge strawberry producer. Over a century ago, the luscious fruit was celebrated with the first annual Strawberry Days Festival…the longest running festival in Colorado. Actually, in those days, people were so spread out, they would celebrate anything just to have an excuse to get together. Hence, there is the Dandelion Festival, Potato Days, Burning Mountain Days, etc. Strawberry Days runs the third full weekend of June. There will be food and arts & crafts booths, live music, children’s programs, a parade, free strawberries and ice cream, a Miss Strawberry Days Scholarship Pageant….you know, the quintessential small town summer festival. And, I’m going! It will be an excellent opportunity to see tons of my friends without running around all over to visit here and there. I get to visit with my brother so I’m really super excited about that. And I’ll be leaving TOW-Wanda at home and staying with my “parents by choice”. They stood up for me at our wedding after my mother had passed away and my father was in a nursing home. I’ll take my bike with me and tool around town. It’s going to be so much fun!
I had a lunch meeting yesterday with my good friend, Lisa. She has developed an app that helps you find a local coffee shop. There are no chains listed as this is only for small mom & pop shops. Great app! You can download it in the Apple Store. Just look for The Local Coffee House Guide. I will be blogging for her at least once a month, reviewing and introducing you to a new coffee shop. I’m excited to do this for many reasons. I love the idea of supporting local business owners, I love coffee, I can do this as I travel, and…I adore Lisa! She has a true gypsy spirit. She’s also a Sister on the Fly and we help our Sisters whenever we can! My first interview/blog will be with SWEET COLORADOUGH…a local bakery/coffee shop with really GREAT COFFEE and the BEST. DONUTS. EVER!!! I can’t wait!

“Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.”
