I didn’t sleep well again. Although the little AirB&B is incredibly comfortable and blissfully quiet, it wasn’t my bed. And I missed my sweetie. So, when I heard there was a risk of severe weather again, I decided to knit for a while with Gail then head home. After all, we’ll be camping with her Monday, so I’ll get to see her again soon.
As I was on my way home, Mr. FixIt suggested I stop at an RV dealer in the general vicinity to see what kind of campers they had. I love the new R-Pods. Remember the one I got to haul around for the Girl Camper Trailer Raffle a few years ago? Well, they have them! It was fun to go in and look around and see the changes they’ve made. The biggest and best change is the window over the bed OPENS now! Wowza!
An R-Pod 196 like the one I got to pull for the Girl Camper Trailer Raffle
The biggest surprise came when I walked around the corner. There was a Sportsmen Classic from KZRV…two years newer, but exactly like Little TOW-Wanda…my very first camper. That was the one I bought just three weeks after Mr. Virgo died. I traded her in the following year for Big TOW-Wanda and I’ve regretted it ever since.
This little girl is SO tiny! As I stood in the camper, memories washed over me. I remembered my very first campout in her at Rifle Gap State Park. As a matter of fact, the photo on the left was taken on that maiden voyage! She was my first safe place to grieve…my cocoon, my nest. When I had to park her in storage in a field out by the airport, i used to go out after church every Sunday and walk through snow up to my knees in order to climb in and take a nap under a pile of blankets.
So, cute…but so tiny!
This one is certainly affordable, although she costs exactly what I paid for her in 2013. As my friend Lynn Butler of Setzer’s RV says, “The time to buy is now ‘cause the kids are going to grow up and the prices are going to go up!” The only thing is, I’m presented with the very same problem I had that made me trade it in back in 2014. The bunks are not comfortable for an adult to sleep in. So, I left the dinette down and put the best memory foam mattress in it. That was great, but it left no where to sit. It’s seriously great for a single woman to camp in, but it would be pretty cramped for two for any length of time.
It was sad to walk down memory lane and remember where I was nine years ago. However, where I am now seems a lifetime away from those dark days of grief. The Lord has blessed me bountifully and I know better than to look in the rear view mirror too long.
I’m not heading in that direction.
Evening storm clouds rolling in. If you zoom in, you can see a chimney swift.
In the meantime, we keep getting waves of severe storm warnings every few days. June is notoriously a rainy month here in West Virginia, but this heat is oppressive. It’s much more like August. Which, of course, makes you wonder what August is going to be like!
