Taking it Easy

I slept like a stone, but still woke up with this headache. Occasional scratchy throat. I don’t feel sick as much as “puny”, as my grandma used to say. I tested yesterday afternoon and was negative. I’ll keep a close watch and continue to go easy. I’m just tired, I think. We run and run and run then I crash for a couple of days. It’s not the first time and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

I knitted on the baby sweater. I read. I took a nap. Mr. FixIt and I had supper out in front of the new camper again. And I knitted some more. Before it got too dark, I walked around and took some pictures for you. We are getting more color. The dogwood tree has bright red berries on it and the birds dart in and out of the hedgerow to snatch them. The seed pods are drying nicely on the redbud so I’ll gather some in the coming days.

I’m glad we got the mowing done as soon as we got back. We are getting intermittent rain coming through. The nights are cool and refreshing in the 50’s. The highs have been in the high 60’s, low 70’s the last couple of days. I used to dread fall because it is the harbinger of winter’s long, dark nights. But after mowing five acres the last five years, I’m tickled to death to see the grass go dormant so I can get other things done.

I did find something interesting through a fellow I know on Facebook. He share the name of an app…FlightAware.

This is the app I’m using. I think they asked to start an account, but I elected to continue as a guest and I get all the information I want for free.

I’ve been hearing a helicopter fly over our house at least twice a week. He was talking about using that app to find out what a certain kind of plane was that flew over his house. The app told him what kind of plane it was, where it took off from, and where it was heading. I downloaded it and while I was knitting outside the camper in the late afternoon, I heard the helicopter.

I quickly looked it up and it was a medical flight coming out of Morgantown. It was fascinating to watch the flight real time and on the app. I thought of my Grandma. What would she have thought if we saw a plane flying over the farm and I pulled this small, flat device out of my pocket, poked a few buttons, and told her that was an airplane flying from Washington, DC to Dallas at 30,000 feet? Can you imagine? It’s crazy what we take with a grain of salt, isn’t it?

I need to get back to the quilt sometime this week. I’d like to finish this baby sweater first. There’s really nothing much new going on. We need to get out to the farm in the next few days to mow. Maybe after another day of rest, I’ll feel more like getting up and getting stuff done. I’ve learned to listen to my body, and my mind and spirit, and rest when it’s time to rest. I used to push through till I was way beyond lost and exhausted. There are benefits to aging. Knowing when to say enough is enough is one of them.

  1. I’ve been missing your posts…too much going on here. I’ve had to admit my husband into a VA nursing home.?This is another major adjustment. I just saw this post about the flightAware app. There’s 2 to choose from so I picked the first one listed. I hope that’s the right one? It says Planes Live-Flight…..then when I click to open it there’s a thing for free trial & subscribefor a year at $39.99!! Think I’ll delete this one!

    1. First, let me say how sorry I am you have had to take this next step with your husband. I totally understand how people need to do this and I support your decision all the way. Caregiving is a difficult and thankless job. I always tell people you cannot fill someone else’s vessel when yours is empty! Please take care of yourself. Now, I will add the picture of the app I used. There may have been something on this one that wanted me to create an account, but I didn’t elect to and I get all the information I could want for free. There’s an ad on the page, but who cares? If I can ignore it on FB, I can ignore it anywhere!
