Cardinals don’t migrate, so we have an abundance of them here in West Virginia. It is our state bird, along with that of six other states. I grew up calling them “redbirds”. They were my grandma’s favorites and she took such delight when she saw a flash of crimson darting in and out of the shrubs out on the farm.
This picture shows a pair of cardinals. The male of course is flashy and bright with a black mask across his face. The female is a dusty, rusty reddish grey. They both have a peaked crown of feathers on top of their heads. They had a distinct chirp you cannot miss. This pair is nesting in the forsythia bush out by the corner of the house. Mr. FixIt pruned them way back just before the wedding when he cleaned up the property.
I just love these birds. We have talked about them here a lot. We have discussed whether they signal a visit from a loved one who has passed. I like to think, since Grandma loved them so much, it is her flying by to say hello, but the truth of the matter is, you see them here year-round.
It finally warmed up a bit yesterday but we still worked inside. The dry, winter air in the house has caused the glue to dry out in the joints of some of our bigger pieces of furniture so Mr. FixIt took a support rail off and used wood glue before screwing the piece securely back together. I knitted and made a big pot of Beef Stroganoff for dinner. It was a pretty laid-back day and we really enjoyed it. ❤️
“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.””
Genesis 8:22 ESV
God gives us flashes of joy in the bare ness of winter if we pay attention and see them. In every stage of life there is beauty. Find it! Thanks Ginny!

on our local news, WEAR 3 in Pensacola, they did a story. last night about” the girls on the fly”. There is a group of 75 girls in the storm damaged area around the Panama City area. They all had what looked like matching long sleeve t shirts on and the were cutting branches and putting them in piles. It was just a little piece, but it was nice.
Yes! That is the Sisters on the Fly. This particular group belong to the Sister Corps…women who travel into storm ravaged areas to help long after the main crowds have gone on about their business. Such a wonderful service! ❤️
