The Aftermath

Smashed watermelon

When Mr. Virgo and I lived in southern Colorado on that 4200 acre ranch, we went out with the four-wheelers for a ride out in the back part of the property. We got into something too steep and turned around to head back down. Mr. Virgo was ahead of me quite a ways till he was actually out of my sight. I was coming slowly down the hill wondering where on Earth he was when I rounded a bend and found him standing alongside the road, bent over, hands on his knees, glasses gone, shirt ripped and dirty, gasping for breath. The four-wheeler was no where to be seen. I pulled up and stopped, and my brain had trouble processing that he had been in an accident. Thank God I didn’t see him when he drove off the cliff or when he landed on the log six feet below, or when the four-wheeler came down right on top of him! There are some thing God shields you from. When I finally understood what had happened, I got him on the back of my ATV and drove him down to the nearest cabin, left him with a water bottle and a gun, and high-tailed it down off the mountain to get my SUV. I raced back up to get him, praying in both directions that he would be ok.

Coming off the mountain was painstakingly slow as every bump sent him reeling in excruciating pain. He was quite grey and I knew he was shocky but he couldn’t lay down because half his ribs were broken and he had a hemo-pneumothorax. Finally, I got him to the little ER in town and they were going to let him go home with pain meds. I insisted they do a scan and they found the extent of his injuries and sent him via ambulance to a tertiary trauma center. I called everyone I knew to pray for him. He ended up in the hospital for a week and it took months for him to heal.

While this accident I was in last week has shaken me up, it’s nothing as bad as what Mr. Virgo went through. He was so strong and stoic. I’m doing ok. My only real pain at this point is still my chest from the seatbelt and airbag. I do have the classic symptoms of a concussion. I have a very low grade headache and have a tendency to tell the same story repeatedly or forget where I’m going in the middle of a sentence, but that’s not all that new, truth be told! I’m going to stay in town with friends one more day and then I’ll head home tomorrow. I’ll actually get more rest because the errands will be done. Continued prayers are appreciated as I navigate insurance, repairs/replacement of the truck, added appointments, rental car, and continued healing. I appreciate all of your concerns and well wishes. They mean so much to me! ❤️

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

  1. The seat belt deep bruising can be relieved by doing a warm castor oil pack on that area. Google it, I know it works. I had a friend that had a similar experience. It’s basically castor oil soaked on a natural material clothe and placed on area covered that with saran wrap. My friend swore by it. Hope you feel better soon.

  2. Hope that you’ll feel better soon, Ginny.
You are a strong woman. Take care.
God is with you. Love and prayers ❤

  3. You are in my thoughts and my prayers, my friend. I am so glad God spared you serious injury ( although I know you hurt)❤️

  4. Happy to hear your taking care of yourself Ginny. You will need to have strength to navigate your way through all the upcoming “legal stuff!” (Chuckle)

  5. Wow! that was a horrific accident for Mr. Virgo and a bad one for you too. I’m so sorry. It’s always traumatic to have an accident and then to have one where you are injured…so much worse. Praying for a fast recovery.
