Seriously, could it get any greener than this??? This is my all-time favorite time of the year. The freshness of spring hasn’t left us yet. I’ve identified a new sound. Tree frogs! These aren’t peepers like you hear in the spring. And they aren’t the deep-throated bullfrogs. These frogs have a two second croak that reminds me of that musical instrument that draws a wooden dowel over a serrated edge. I love when it’s warm enough to go out first thing in the morning with coffee and last thing at night with something cold and refreshing. I can hear the neighbor’s TV down the road. Who would want to sit inside and watch television when you can live inside the “nature station”?
The cherries are turning red across the creek in the old garden area. The birds are lined up in great anticipation for the taste treat of the year and I can guarantee you, if I were going to be home when they ripen fully, I’d be hard pressed to get enough for a pie before they’re gone. The clematis is blooming as are grandma’s peonies. I did not realize peonies have a scent. In the midday sun they give off a soft, sweet aroma that is quite lovely.
I caught so many carpenter bees in the trap that I actually had to empty it tonight. I got a plastic container and added water and a generous squirt of dish soap and dumped them in. They cannot escape the soapy water. Now there’s room for more.
As I write this, my “tribe” has gathered around me for my evening writing session. Kitty Boy has returned from his sojourns well and hardy. He doesn’t stick around house like Boy Cat. It’s rare for Old Mama Kitty to be gone long. She snoozes in the chair beside me whenever I come outside. I’ve never been much of a cat person although I had one as a teenager. These kitties have stolen my heart. Go figure!
After my day of surfing the mattress Tuesday, I slept eleven hours straight that night. I woke up feeling much better physically. There is still sadness at the periphery…not for me, but for others. One of my fellow Sisters on the Fly lost her son Tuesday after being hit by a car as he crossed the road. He was to be married this Saturday. A high school friend lost a family member in a freak accident Monday when the tractor rolled over on him as they were cutting down a tree. People are getting out and doing things after being cooped up all winter. There seem to be a lot of outdoor accidents this time of year. Please, everyone…be safe out there. And say some prayers for the families of these beautiful people. Hold your loved ones close. ❤️
