The Jobs are Lining Up

It’s springtime in full force here on the Ponderosa and the list of things that need doing is getting longer already. We were going to paint yesterday, but we received an invitation to an impromptu late Easter Egg Hunt for the great grandbabies and off we went! They were so cute…hunting for the eggs, then running around themselves and hiding them again so the could do it all over. I wanted to get them something other than candy, but Papaw won and they each got a basket with treats and toys in it. I remember how much fun that was when I was a little girl and it brought back sweet memories for me to watch them.

Mr. FixIt was looking at something in the back of his truck when I came out to leave. It was an old wheelbarrow that was made by Ames back when he was an engineer there. I looked at that sad old thing…well used but suffering from being exposed to the weather over the years. The wood is grey and rough, the bed is rusty but solid, and the tire was rotted to the point it wouldn’t hold air. Now, the former doctor’s wife in me thought…I’d just get rid of that thing and get a better one. But, the frugal West Virginia boy I married said…This thing can be saved!

We bought a new wheel for it over the weekend, but we neglected to actually measure the tire beforehand. Consequently, the new wheel was much too small. We returned it yesterday and found a suitable replacement. Now the wood will get sanded and oiled and the pan will get wire brushed and painted. And we’ll have a wheelbarrow that will be perfectly suitable to do the odd jobs for which it was intended. I’ve changed a lot since I met and married this man. I might have been a lot better off over the years if I would have remembered my frugal West Virginia roots along the way instead of disposing of things when they were looking ragged.

When we got home from town, Mr. FixIt taped off the window on the outside wall we are painting today. We had to order a special extension cord for the security camera for the back of the house and it won’t arrive till Thursday. In the meantime, we can put one up over the side door of the garage.

Checking off a list gives me a great sense of accomplishment. It’s just that…I keep finding more things to add. I guess that’s called life, right? There’s always something to do.

Always!
