The Three C’s…Chickens, Coffee, & Clouds

Chicken
“What honeymoon is complete without chickens?!”

Ok, just when I think the days couldn’t be more perfect here on the OBX, along came an even MORE perfect one. Yesterday’s temperature climbed up into the 70’s! Oh, rest my heart. We had another lazy morning with bacon and eggs. I took my coffee out on the deck and lounged in the morning sunshine. Midday, Mr. FixIt suggested we go for a long walk on the beach. I’m ALWAYS game for more beach time!

As we left the house, “Henrietta” here came to see if we had any chicken treats. She and her two companions live at the house next door and they roam around the neighborhood. They come running when they hear the rustling of a bag! Mr. FixIt just happened to have peanuts in his pocket and they were a huge hit with our little feathered friend.

“Coffee in the morning sun.”

Mr. FixIt didn’t fish yesterday so there was no lugging of chairs and poles and tackle in a rolling cart to the beach. Instead, we took a blanket to sit on. We walked a long way. (Much longer than that health app said, I’m sure.) We talked to other fishers to see if they were having any luck. They were about like us. A few here and there. But there was general consensus that fishing on the OBX…even when the fish aren’t biting…beats the heck out of working. Amen!

We went north on the beach yesterday so we could spread out our blanket and watch the surfers. There were four adolescent boys in wetsuits out trying to outdo each other. One was obviously more experienced than the others and he made it look so easy. There was one younger boy who really struggled and we were somewhat concerned for him Mr. FixIt said it looked like maybe he had succumbed to some peer pressure. We kept an eye on the young man and eventually he made it back to the beach.

It was siesta time when we got back. I made hot chicken sandwiches and potato salad for supper. A few hands of rummy and it was time to write while Mr. FixIt watched some television. When we went out on the deck at sundown, he wrapped his arms around me as the salty breeze whipped through our hair.

“This is the best honeymoon. It was the best wedding. It is the best life!”

I sighed and leaned against him.

Amen, my love. Amen! ❤️

  1. Congratulations!! I’m new to SOTF, and just read a post about you. Inspirational and perfect timing or synchronistic happening! I, too, am letting go of the old and re-reading for the next phase of my life, unencumbered to my point of embrace. Im ready to stop saying, “I don’t do….” and give all of it a new looking over. Date of letting go, my 66th birthday, Nov.30, 2018. The last of Nov. was the first of Me! Just wanted to share that i felt your article was my affirmation! Thanks, be well and continue to enjoy an enriched life!
