We didn’t take a single picture yesterday so here’s one Mr. FixIt took the other night when we were watching the sunset. Sometimes the greatest views are in the opposite direction from where you’re looking.
We had a nice, slow morning. Pancakes and eggs for breakfast. I love cooking outside. I’d like to have a cocina like they have in Mexico. An open air kitchen with a roof and a ceiling fan. It’s such a great way to cook and keep the heat out of the house. And there’s something primal about cooking outdoors, even if it’s in an electric skillet! Of all my specialty appliances, my big electric skillet is my favorite and I use it all the time. It’s big enough to use in place of a griddle and it’s deep enough to make stew, soup, and chili. It’s so easy to clean, too. I just wipe it out well, pour in some water with a drop of dish soap, and heat it up to a simmer. I turn it off and by the time it’s cool enough to put my hands in the water, I just swish a dishcloth around in it, dump the water, and give it a quick rinse with fresh water. Then it’s ready for the next meal and I’ve never brought it inside.
After breakfast, we moseyed up the island to Kitty Hawk. We needed to stop at Lowe’s. Then I “had” to visit my friend Jeanne who owns Knitting Addiction Yarn Shop. My bestie Gail sent me a pattern for a soft, squishy winter hat and I thought that would be a great Christmas gift so I picked up the size needle I needed and enough yarn to make two hats and a pair of fingerless mittens.
Later, Mr. FixIt had a hankering for a hotdog from Captain Frank’s just down the road from the yarn shop. We stopped at the two antique stores next door then went in for lunch. The only thing I got in the antique stores was a handle for lifting Pyrex pans. I hadn’t seen one for ages and I have some old Pyrex at home.
By the time we got back to the camper, we were both too tired to do much. We sat outside for a while but there was no wind at all and the mosquitoes were even after Mr. FixIt, and that’s highly unusual. Even with Off! we were both getting attacked.
It was really a relaxing day…one well deserved. I think we’ll go out on the pier and fish again today. That was so much fun! We really haven’t spent much time on the beach itself this trip. It is such a chore to get our things out there and we didn’t want to spend the money on a beach pass. We have those big wheeled beach totes at home, but Mr. FixIt didn’t think we had room for them. Next time, we’ll strap them to the roof of the truck if need be!
Yesterday and today were forecast to be cloudy but tomorrow looks like full sun! Saturday has an 86% chance of rain and 34% on Sunday when we leave to head to our next campground. Honestly, we couldn’t have picked a better week to be here!
