Do any of you remember Lazarus Department Store in Columbus? It was THE place to go shopping for really upscale fashions. We found this small hatbox in the antique store. Does anyone wear hats anymore?
You know how much I LOVE going to town, right? Well, we couldn’t help it…we had to go three days in a row. So, while I was there yesterday, I made sure there was NOTHING I would need from town which entailed multiple stops. The big chore yesterday was getting the preventative care on the transmission on my truck done before our big trips coming up. I especially worry because we tow with that vehicle. Every once in a while you can hear the transmission slip just a bit. The last time that happened, the transmission fluid was a little low. I was very pleased when the mechanic said there weren’t any metal shavings in the fluid he took out. With new fluid and a new filter, it runs like a new truck and I’m a happy camper!
The downside of getting the transmission service is, it takes forever. You drive it in and they need to let the truck cool down. Then they test drive it to listen for any problems. It has to cool down again before they can actually do the service. We dropped the truck off at about 8:30 in the morning and went to breakfast. I really didn’t want to just meander all over town, so we went to our friend Joe’s house. It is their second home and no one was there. I stitched and knitted while Mr. FixIt watched TV.
Along in the afternoon, we headed to Sam’s to pick up a few things and stopped at an antique store Mr. FixIt hadn’t been to. We had such a wonderful time talking with Mr. Modesitt. He showed us some items from his personal collection which were magnificent. Mr. FixIt has never met a stranger, and this fellow certainly had the gift of gab, so I enjoyed a fair amount of uninterrupted browsing.
By the time we were finished at the shop, we decided surely the truck must be finished so we headed to the garage. The receptionist called just as we pulled into the lot so it was good timing. Mr. FixIt went on home and I had two more stops on the way. After supper, I told my sweetie that I’m NOT leaving this house unless it’s an emergency!
We have so many things to do to get ready for the trip to the beach next week. That’s the priority for the next coming days. That and mowing…both places. I had my second Shingrix vaccine on Monday and this one has kinda kicked my butt. Headache, muscle aches, fatigue, fever, upset stomach…the works. I’ve read that doctors are finding some people aren’t returning for that second dose, which is a shame. Shingles is not something you want to get. I had a very mild case a few years ago and even that was unpleasant. I can’t imagine what people go through when they have a full blown case. A couple of days’ upset is worth the 90% prevention rate you get with it.
The weather forecast included some severe thunderstorms and as I am writing this at 8:36PM last night, it is scheduled to begin later in the evening. I’ll let you know tomorrow how it turned out, but according to the radar, I think it will hit farther north than we are. My bestie Gail said she and two of her daughters and their families gathered in her basement for the 6:00 wave which included a tornado warning.
Be safe out there, my friends! You are precious!
