I’ve had the big trailer for 9 months now. She’s 29’5″ from the hitch to the spare tire on the back. That’s long when you’re used to 16′. Add the truck and I’m a good 42′ long with a topper and a kayak. I’m definitely haulin’!
This life isn’t for everybody. I’ve had women drop their jaw when they learn I live full time in this thing. Most men want to give me a high five. I tried explaining to someone how I don’t like sleeping inside houses now because they make me feel claustrophobic. It’s not the SIZE…it’s the idea of being cooped up in one spot. I feel sorry for people whose views never change. They don’t know the joy of taking off on vacation and packing everything you own. You literally have everything you need right behind you. I love traveling and pulling over at lunch time to fix something to eat, stretching out for a little siesta, then heading back out on the open road.
I am a vagabond. A meanderer. I live a bohemian life. But I am a realist. There are a few drawbacks to living like this. Gas isn’t cheap so if you can spend long stretches of time in one spot it sure helps the budget. This reduces the wear and tear on both your vehicle and your camper. There’s not a ton of storage so I have a rule…if something comes in, something else has to go out. The sinks and countertops and stovetop are lower than those in a conventional sticks and bricks home and believe it or not, that discourages me from cooking sometimes. It’s just awkward. The wastewater tanks have to be emptied when you’re dry docked, as I am a good portion of the time. That means hooking this monstrosity up and hauling it across town to the nearest RV dump. And, because it’s so big and hooking up is such a chore, I am far less likely to take off and go on a spontaneous adventure.
That being said…it’s mine. I own it, lock stock and memory foam mattress and the security of that alone makes everything else worthwhile. Yes, I love my life…my little house on wheels.
God Bless this Trailer Home!

“By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”
Hebrews 11:9-10
