Gail’s New Spinning Wheel…all Tucked in Safe and Sound
Mr. FixIt woke me with a start yesterday morning at 8:05. We were due at a local garage at 8:30 to drop off the truck to get new brakes. I gently reminded him we weren’t heading out to catch a flight so if we were a few minutes late, we’d be ok. We got the name of this mechanic from Mr. FixIt Jr. This fella did some work for him a few times and he was pleased. Since our usual mechanic couldn’t get us in for a week or so, we decided to give this guy a try. Not only did he get us right in, but his price was far less than the other place and we didn’t have to drive all the way into town. Win-Win!
We went back home and piddled around the house for a while. I tried to do some laundry. I hate our washing machine. It’s one of those “water savers” which is a joke because no matter how well I load it, I always have to rinse twice. This time, I had it loaded just right. I turned it on and set the dials and buttons and used start (why do there have to be SO many buttons?!) The lid lock light came on, there was a click as it locked followed by a brief hum then….click! The lock light went out. I tried everything. I turned it off and on. Hey if it works for a cell phone surely it will work for a washing machine right?
Nothing.
I passed Mr. FixIt on my way out to the camper with an armload of stuff and asked him if he would please go down and commune with that infernal machine and do that voodoo he does so well. He went down, pushed the same buttons I did and…it turned right on! That machine hates me.
I spent a good deal of time cleaning up the camper and restocking with some of the items I took out last fall. I made the bed and stowed away anything loose that might roll around while I’m traveling to the campground tomorrow. I brought out Gail’s spinning wheel that we picked up for her last month. I tucked it under the dinette table and surrounded it with the bed pillows to protect it. That’s recipes cargo. Those things are really expensive…kinda the Mercedes of spinning wheels. I can’t wait to get it to her because she’s really been looking forward to it. After the month they’ve had in East Palestine, she deserves a getaway with the girls and the opportunity to spin on a wheel she’s wanted for decades.
Once I had things squared away in the camper, I brought the slide in and locked up for the night. I spent the rest of the afternoon going through my patterns and accessories then choosing what yarn I want to work with next. I think I’m going to make a beautiful red cardigan next. I also brought a soft grey cashmere blend that might be nice. Then at the last minute, I threw in my go to sock patterns and a pretty sock yarn. What can I say…I’ll know what I want to knit when I get there.
Gail tells me there is no cell service at the campground and there’s probably no WiFi either. So I’ll schedule some repeat posts for you for the rest of the week and I’ll be back live Monday morning! It’s going to be nice to have a break.
