I was sure I would bake yesterday, but one thing or another got in the way. Namely, it was 78° outside! That’s just too tempting! Mr. FixIt and I walked around the perimeter of the property to see what’s peeking up from their long winter’s sleep. The pear tree buds are starting to pop open. Little Johnny Jump-ups are showing their pretty purple dresses. There’s some sort of lily popping up behind the spot where the burgundy peonies grow. I don’t remember seeing them before. I may dig them up and move them to another spot where they won’t be overshadowed by the bigger plants.
One of my favorite sights in the spring is the Flowering Quince. I’ve known them forever because they grew along the creek bank at The Farm. Delicate dark pink flowers with rounded, cupped petals are some of the first blooms to grace our area. They last a long time and carry us well into the spring season.
When we got to the back of the near field, Mr. FixIt showed me where he found some fur scattered about and a strange bone sticking out of the ground. The two were not related. The bone had been there for quite some time. And, I came through there a week or so ago and the fur wasn’t there. We have a lot of hawks that nest nearby. We also have lots of bunnies. As for the bone, it looked like it came from a large bird. Remember last fall when I picked up all those turkey feathers out there? I think the bone might be from that kill. We have coyotes around here, too. So, I assume that’s what happened here.
It was a wonderful day. We’re supposed to have rain today. It’ll be a better day for baking because I won’t be so tempted to go out and play.
Have a blessed day, my friends.

“Ask rain from the Lord in the season of the spring rain, from the Lord who makes the storm clouds, and he will give them showers of rain, to everyone the vegetation in the field.” Zechariah 10:1 ESV
***Gratitude Journal*** Today I am grateful for the spring that beckons us with brilliant green, pink, yellow, and purple. For the spring rains that soak the ground. The warm sunshine that beckons us into its warmth. It makes me feel more alive after the sleep of winter.
