We love our new camper. It’s the perfect size to tow. It’s lightweight. It has every amenity you need…except for a comfortable place to sit. There is a slide out, which is great because it gives you more foot space and you aren’t crawling over each other. However, there is a dinette in the slide that is the most uncomfortable seating I have ever seen in a camper. The table is mounted way too high and even with losing over twenty-five pounds has me feeling like I’m sitting at the kiddies’ table.
It’s not easy to find affordable furniture that will go through the narrow door of a camper. You can find some cheap, entry level padded bench-type love seats. Or you can buy something from IKEA that you have to put together like Tinker Toys. What we really wanted was a loveseat that’s actually made for an RV…preferable one that reclines. These are made with weight and size in mind but man, are they pricey!
We’ve been checking online and even on FB Marketplace. Sometimes people take furniture out of their campers and do something different and they sell the items, but we didn’t have much luck. Mr. FixIt went to town yesterday and decided to stop at one of the two local RV dealers. They happened to have exactly what we were looking for! He’s a wheeler-dealer, this man of mine. He didn’t want to pay what they wanted. It was a difference of $200. The dealer went down a little on the price but wasn’t going any lower than that. Mr. FixIt was going to walk away.
We are preparing to leave Wednesday for the beach for two weeks. It’s October. We very likely will have rain storms while we’re there and the only place to sit is this dinette and it kills our backs. So, I voted and appealed to his back pain and won. We picked it up and brought it home. And now we have to take the dinette out and set this in. I’m SO excited, I could plotz! I sat in this thing. It’s MILES ahead of the dinette. And, each side reclines independently…nearly flat! This means, in a pinch…it could be used for extra sleeping.
I have a place to knit! And to sit while I write! I’ll take the dinette out carefully and maybe someone might want it on Marketplace. I’m doing the happy dance over here. This will make the trip to the beach so much better! The only thing that might stand in our way at this point is weather…or possibly a government shutdown. The campground where we’re staying is in a National Park. Whether we get to camp or not is small potatoes compared to people going without paychecks! We’ll deal with the hand we’re given…one way or the other.
