When You Have to Say “See Ya!”

Those five days went by WAY too fast. Oh, my…how I miss my girls. It was a really hard year anyway, then to not get to see my Colorado peeps on top of it made it seem worse. But we sure crammed a lot of fun into five days. Yesterday was a lot more low key. We hung around the house most of the day. My daughter did some laundry so they’d have clean clothes for the rest of their trip. I baked a Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie to have for dessert last night. When it was cooling, we headed to town.

Little needed sunglasses. I needed a flash drive…and some cortisone cream. Remember when I told you yesterday about the caterpillar that landed on my neck? Well, I did some more research and it was some variety of tussock moth caterpillar. Those little hairs stick in your skin and break off. They’re very irritating. I have a two inch circle of raised, itchy welts where the little rascal got caught between my collar and my neck. Oooooooh, it itches and stings. I’m putting cortisone cream on it as well as “After Bite”…something that knocks down the stinging for awhile. The poison control website says the irritation should only last a day or two so I’m hoping this settles down quickly.

We got home and I started a supper with Big in mind. There is more to being a vegetarian than eating salad, so I wanted her to have a yummy meal. We had corn-on-the-cob, half-runner beans, cucumbers and onions, sliced fresh tomatoes, spicy bean burgers, and homemade buttermilk biscuits with honey. What a glorious repast…and Big was a happy camper, especially after having a piece of pie!

Mr. FixIt got home just as I was putting things away so I fixed him up a plate. He is always so appreciative of my cooking which makes me happy to do it for him. After dinner, Little and I took our evening dip in the pool. Mr. FixIt came out and watered the garden then sat and talked with us for a while. And now, two of my sweet girls hit the road this morning to head off for another ten-day whirlwind tour of several colleges in the Northeast before they swing by to pick up Little and head home.

I cried when she got here…I’ll cry when she leaves. My first born. The one I grew up with. Strong, hardworking, still so pretty. I hugged her last night and thanked her so much for coming to see me. She’s not one to be overly emotional. She’s the child that you know loves you, but she doesn’t say it very often. She’s just not all that huggy-kissy like me. That’s ok. I know for a fact if I needed her, she would be here in a heartbeat. When Mr. Virgo was in the ER having a heart attack, I could hear her running down the hall to leave word to come be with me…five hours away. She’s a good kid….and I love her with every beat of my heart. I’ll get to see them all in September when we go to Colorado. I’ll get to see my brother. AND…I’ll spend some quality time with Daughter #2 and her wife! I cannot wait!!!

Where did June go???
