Winter Wonderland

I am developing a love for photography. And, I’ve always been a techno-geek and love the cool new apps that can manipulate your photographs turning them into faux paintings. This is a picture I took a couple of years ago at the Ute Museum near Durango, CO. I used an app called Waterlogue and turned it into a “painting”. I would never try to pass my work off as real paintings out of respect for artists. I know the blood, sweat and tears that go into works of art. At the same time, in order to have the photo to manipulate, one must have some photographic skills so I’ll accept that. I’m always looking for something new to accompany my posts, so this seems to be another creative outlet for me as it appeals on so many levels. I’ve been thinking about making note cards and holiday cards and selling them on my Etsy page. Maybe next year.

Speaking of creating things, I decided to make blankets for my grandchildren for Christmas to go with their newly painted bedrooms. One day I would like to make them each a quilt, but have not had the time for that so I elected to make them something soft and cuddly. I ordered two yards each (per blanket) of a print and a solid of a material called Minky. It’s ultra soft. I found the perfect patterns and colors on fabric.com. Then I had batting sandwiched between the top and bottom, stitched all around three edges then turned inside out and the end stitched. Yesterday I stretched them out on the dining room table and tied them like you would tie a quilt. I think they will be very warm blankets that will take them to adulthood. I chose patterns that weren’t little kid stuff. As with most anything you make, especially if you have to ship them, I could have bought three blankets each for the amount of money I put into them. But, these were made by Nana so that’s what’s important.

We went to my youngest grand daughter’s Christmas program last night and it was so fun to watch my “Mini Me”. She’s exactly like her mama…a drama major in the making. So much fun! And, speaking of fun, I get to meet some Sisters on the Fly for lunch today! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
