Mr. Virgo’s Clock…I hung it, set the pendulum in motion, the time on the clock said 6:07. I turned to check the time on my Echo device…6:07!!! You can’t make this stuff up!!!
We start every day with a semi-plan. We may not know exactly what we’ll accomplish every day, but we have a general idea in which direction we want to go. We’ll be moving right along at a respectable clip when all of a sudden, something pops up and sends in a completely different direction. That’s what happened yesterday.
I finished cleaning the guest bedroom, put the new sheets on and selected the quilts I wanted to showcase. I moved Grandma’s mirror from the family room to the guest room and hung it over my “Kindness Matters” sign. I took down a small wall quilt that I was tired of looking at and hung a whimsical picture with some sort of fairy tale reference. To be honest, I didn’t take the time to read the info on the back of the painting that explains it. I’ll get to it.
I put the last of the books on the bookshelves in the office and adjusted the placement of some portraits of our ancestors so the symmetry was more pleasing. Once I was satisfied with all that, I went downstairs to get the twin sized memory foam mattress to put on the floor in the guest room for Little. As soon as I stepped in the storage room, I knew something was wrong. The floor was wet! I called for Mr. FixIt and he said that room has never gotten wet like that. The only thing different is, he put a new galvanized window well in early this spring. I don’t know if the rain was just too much for it and the water backed up and leaked through the casement window. Or, if it’s still related to the drainage issue from the mitigation of the road when it was totally redone many years ago. The lot has never drained right since, so I guess it’s time to call the state road folks again.
Miraculously, there were only three cardboard boxes down there on the floor and they were filled with old camping gear, so I transferred them to rubber tubs for storage. Unfortunately, we lost the two mattresses. They were pretty saturated and not knowing the exact source of that water…out they go. I mean, I know it wasn’t sewage, but any water with potential contamination or the presence of mold has no business in your bed. I pulled the twin bed out of the camper and brought it in the house, dressed it in coordinating bedding, and the guest room is ready for my family!
The former Mrs. FixIt came over yesterday bearing gifts. She know Big is a vegetarian, so she brought me the latest copy of Vegetarian Times magazine…and big, beautiful, juicy red tomato. There is a man that’s been setting up a produce stand across the road at the mailboxes for the last couple of weeks. She stopped and Vick us both up a couple of tomatoes. I had some wonderful Colby cheese and some sliced tavern ham in the fridge so I made us some great sandwiches for supper.
Mr. FixIt finished connecting the fixtures in the bathroom and everything worked great, except there is a small drip behind the wall when the hot water supply was turned on to the shower. We turned it off, and in a couple of weeks when we start working on the big bathroom, we can tear into that wall and fix that little problem. In the meantime, two thirds of the bad is fully functional! When he was finished, he mounted the door to the bedroom. Then he shampooed the carpet in our bedroom. Back off girls…I saw him first!
I wanted the refrigerator cleaned out yesterday, but the mess in the basement diverted my attention. So, I will get that done this morning then run to town to go grocery shopping. I haven’t done a proper shop in months and I want to stock up on the special treats my Colorado kids love! Isn’t it fun to spoil your loved ones when they come to visit? I remember my own grandma greeting me at the door with, “You want some jelly bread, sug?” And off she’d go making me two sliced of bread with butter and her homemade black cap jelly! Lord…I’l love to have a cupboard full of that stuff! I need to perfect it myself this year.
T-Minus One Day! I’m so excited I could plotz!
