Work Done and Pool Fun!

I try not to do any work on Sunday, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. The grass isn’t quite long enough to mow, but OMGosh! The shrubbery around the fenced area of the pool was getting totally out of hand. Mr. FixIt bought a battery powered hedge trimmer on an extension pole so we can reach up and shear this tangled mess, so I went out and worked on it for a couple of hours. We trim it back, then we need to back the truck up to the fence, toss the brush in the back and haul it over to the burn pile. Then, we have to keep going. It’s like a literal jungle here at this time of the year and if you don’t stay on top of it, you’re in big trouble pretty quick.

It wasn’t terribly hot yesterday, so the chore wasn’t overwhelming. Mr. FixIt did some mowing around the trash cans and on the bank along the road while I trimmed. When we were done, we decided to jump in the pool and enjoy the spoils of hard work. The water temp was only 78° so it was a bit brisk and bracing when we first got in. But we enjoyed ourselves and did a little water aerobics to burn off some more calories.

I weighed myself yesterday morning and I am at a new low! If I stay on this trajectory, I could have the last ten pounds off in a few weeks. As you can see on the graph, I had a steady, continual weight loss till late fall, then I just bounced around all winter, but generally maintaining the thirty-five pounds. I was fine with that, really. As long as I didn’t pack pounds back on in the winter months, I am happy. But now I’d like to get back in the swing of things and get the rest of this off since I’ve come this far.

I caught sight of a burrowing mayfly on the back door yesterday afternoon. I’m sure many of you are being subjected to the mass hatchlings of mayflies at this time of year. The good thing is, the females only live a few hours and the males a couple of days. The swarms are short lived but mighty. They are harmless, but can be dangerous if you drive through a large swarm. They can smear up your windshield to the point you have reduced visibility…especially if you’re driving into the sun.

I keep trying to get a good picture of the fireflies at night but it isn’t easy with the iPhone. They start out just as dusk is fading. At first, they are rising from the field and you see them from one to three feet above the grass. As the evening wears on, they eat higher and higher till they are little around in the trees. That’s when I love to see them. The woods seem to sparkle with their little lighted hineys.

We don’t have a lot on our schedule this week. I’m hoping I can get these curtains finished. I have knitting group this morning. One of our gals won’t be there because she has Covid. We were all together on two occasions the week before but as far as I know, no one else has come down with it. It’s still out there so it’s not a bad idea to minimize hugging and kissing and wash your hands frequently. I practice these and wear a mask while the kids are still in school. Little germ bombs are super spreaders.

I hope you had a good weekend. I’m counting down the days now till our trip and it will be here before we know it!
