Working Out the Kinks

I don’t think there is a camper made that doesn’t have a tiny leak somewhere. The trick is to catch them early, find out where they came from, and fix it right away before there’s any damage done. We left home yesterday morning around noon. The sky looked threatening, but the forecast said there would only be light rain from time to time. That was true for the most part. But we did come through a could of really hard rains (and LOTS of rainbows) and there was a lot of splash up from the road.

The wheel wells in the new camper are hidden…one under the kitchen sink area, and the other under the slide out. We got to our campsite shortly before dark and we really had to hustle to get everything set up before it got too dark and started raining. We only had a couple of things left and Mr. FixIt took the reins while I went inside the camper to fix us something to eat. When I brought the dishes back in, I looked down and there were tiny drops of water along the bottom edge of the kitchen cabinet.

I quickly grabbed a light and some paper towels and set to searching for the source. I soon found where I think the water was coming from. The wheel well under the cabinet. I dabbed everywhere I could reach and soaked up every drop of water I could find. I have a feeling this isn’t the first time it’s done this as there was a bag of moisture absorber on the floor of that cabinet. The camper is just a year old, and it was a very tiny amount of water. Mr. FixIt got down and looked under the wheel well and could see a spot where the leak may have occurred. When we get home, we’ll get it all cleaned up in there and seal it up tight. This is not a huge deal…just an annoyance that happens to the best of campers. The nature of the beast, as it were.

We love this park. We camped here for a couple of nights back in the fall of 2019 when I was just starting out on the Raffle Camper Tour for Girl Camper. We’ve wanted to get back here ever since and this seemed like the perfect time. The park is nearly empty and very quiet, save for the planes coming in and out of the Pittsburgh Airport. They’re pretty high by the time they get over us, so they’re not terribly intrusive.  This year’s site is in the same cul de sac as the site we stayed in previously. I would have much preferred that site, but it was not open all three days. This one is a close second. And…it is a pull-thru so I didn’t even have to back into it! Bonus!

We stopped in Williamstown on the way here and dumped the tanks, then went right across the river to Marietta, OH to the Walmart store. I had a couple of things in mind. Some snacks. A better quality tire pressure gauge. And an electric blanket. Mr. FixIt and I had a vibrant discussion about the merits of buying yet another electric blanket. He reminded me we had two and home and two in the other camper. I reminded him that one goes on our bed at home and one goes on the guest bed. As it turns out, I couldn’t find the cord for the one from the guest room or I would have used it. The two in the other camper are twin size. I guess we could have used them, but it would be pretty unruly and I like a neat and tidy bed. So, we compromised and bought a new electric blanket. The man is a genius!

Oh…there is nothing quite so wonderful as camping in the woods with lovely comfortable sheets, the very best fluffy pillows, and a queen-sized, dual control, electric blanket with a 12-hour shut-off timer. Excuse me…did I hear someone say, “Princess?” Yes! I’ll be the very first to admit I want to camp in comfort. I’ve done the sleeping bag on the ground in a pup tent, thank you very much. I’ve paid my dues. I want to be outside AND I want to be comfortable. I don’t need a huge camper. I don’t need an uber-expensive motorhome with marble floors and leather-covered everything. I definitely DO NOT need a big screen TV and an outdoor kitchen and a sound system with seventeen speakers and a sub-woofer. All I want is a little box that locks..with a bed and a potty. If it’s got a kitchen…bonus. If it has a slide out that gives you more foot room…heck, yeah! Sign me up!

We snuggled down in bed around 8:00 last night. Mr. FixIt with his little DVD player on his belly, watching an old colorized movie from the ‘50s. Me with my little lap desk and iPad…talking to you good people. And now? I think I’ll go raid the snack box and see what I can nibble on before I head to bed.

“Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.”

Ezekiel 1:28 ESV
