My Man

I went on a little walkabout today to check out the pollinator gardens. It seems the only flowers right now are the daisies and tons of clover. I found a large patch of pink clover and the field is full of Indian Mock Strawberry (Potentilla indica), formally (Duchesnea indica). It’s everywhere and the little red berries look like miniature strawberries. But, they have no flavor whatsoever. Mixed in with other berries, you can eat them in jam. but I just look at them and smile at their little five-petal flowers and bright dots of red in the field grass. I think the daisies will continue to bloom for a while.

A Lovely Day at Home

Mr. FixIt got a call yesterday from our son inviting him on an outing for Father’s Day. They usually play a round of golf, but he’s not quite up for that yet, so they’re going fishing. He decided to go to town after supper to get bait for his excursion and asked if I wanted to go. As much as I love to go places with him, I wanted to stay home on Thursday and that didn’t happen. So, I passed. He wants to be home with me today to help me pack the camper and truck for my camping trip with the girls, so that’s a fair exchange.

What a Relief

I want to thank you all for your prayers for Mr. FixIt. His procedure went well and his pain has decreased tremendously. As a matter of fact, we drove to town last evening and listened to live music in the park and sat in our new camping chairs. He remarked on the way home that he feels so good…it’s incredible. The new chairs are great, by the way. Not terribly light weight, but very comfy and I love rocking in them.

What We See Matters

The Bible tells us that our eyes are like lamps that bring light into our bodies. The health of our eyes will determine if our bodies are healthy, filled with light…or unhealthy, filled with darkness. I’ve been pondering this a great deal lately. Without delving into politics, I will say we are being given many opportunities to practice this noble and wise scripture this week. I knew in my heart that the events of Tuesday were liable to serve as a key to open the floodgates of angry and hateful rhetoric.

A Storybook Wedding and a Monumental Birthday

There is an unspoken code. One should not share certain things online until the proper time. You don’t announce the birth of a baby till the parents have. And…you definitely don’t share photos of the bride and groom until they have had a chance to catch their breath and share some photos themselves. You don’t want to step on toes or steal someone’s thunder.

One Down and One to Go

The wedding rehearsal was fun. We got to meet the bridal party…seven groomsmen, seven bridesmaids. The venue is stunning. The kids were going to get married last year, but they waited a whole year just so they could get this venue. Just wait till you see the photos!

Dinner was at one of our favorite Italian restaurants and it was really easy to stick to my Noom program. They thoughtfully served the chicken separate from the pasta and Alfredo sauce. They had young green beans sautéed in EVO and garlic. Oven roasted potato wedges with garlic and herbs. I took some of the marinara sauce from on top of the penne to season my chicken slices. They offered a huge salad and I selected balsamic vinaigrette as my dressing. I passed on the garlic bread, the ooey-gooey cheesy dips they had as apps, and the dessert. I topped it off with a non-alcohol beer and I was one happy camper.

The Hazards of Country Life

I woke up yesterday morning with the sun peeking over the hill into the window in the camper. It had been a chilly night…an electric blanket and four extra layers kept me toasty warm, even with the windows open. I love being warm in a cold room. I sleep so much better. There is a two-lane blacktop that runs by our house and it gets really busy with folks going to work and all. The traffic started picking up then I heard the dull thud of a car hitting a deer.

Finding Peace in the Rush

I really picked the right time to start a “lifestyle change”…There’s so much freshness out there!

I’m reading a devotional by John Mark Comer about eliminating “hurry” from our lives. He posits that we get our schedules so jam packed that we have to rush faster and faster to get things done. When that happens, you have less time for love, joy, and peace. We all need more of all three and we cheat ourselves when we try to cram so much into our lives.

A Calculated Guess

The quilt, tucked in its own little storage box

We ran to town yesterday for Mr. FixIt’s medical appointment and…as I predicted…it turned into an all day ordeal. I didn’t sleep well because I was afraid we’d sleep through the alarm and I was a little concerned about the procedure he’s going to have done. But the doctor was thorough, knowledgeable, and reassuring so I left confident everything’s going to be fine. He’s done over thirty thousand of these so we’re cool.

Spinning my Wheels Again

Grilled Portobello Mushroom Sandwich

This was one of those days where I had a clear goal in mind, but in order to achieve it there were several things that needed doing first. The biggest tie up was chatting with Verizon. Since our internet service is so dicey out here, I depend on the cell service to access the internet a lot of the time. They told me there are notes on our area and they are “working on the problem” but they couldn’t give a time line or explain exactly what the problem is. “But rest assured, we are working on it.” Right. I’ve lived here for five years. It used to be better before the pandemic. Then it just got crappy and it hasn’t improved a bit.
