I awoke early yesterday. Mr. FixIt had an appointment in town at 10:20 and I was afraid I would oversleep. I laid there…listening to the birds and watching the sky brighten till I finally got up. I really enjoy when I get to sleep in the camper. Pretty soon it will be too hot to sleep out there without an air conditioner and the power we have the camper hooked up to will not support that. So…I take advantage of it while I can.
Why…yes, as a matter of fact! When we were camping last week, we went into Yokum’s store to look around. They had a little diner in the back and we decided to sit and have a salad. I wish she would have told me how big the salads were because we each bought one. My word…we could have easily fed four people and had some left over!
The garden is filled with Field Hawkweed and the bees love it!
Mr. FixIt headed out mid morning to help the soon-to-be newlyweds with the new roof on their house and left me to my own devices at home. I lazed around and fixed a nice breakfast, then headed out with my hot cup of RYZE to check out the pollinator gardens. I could see the new yellow flowers from clear across the field and was really excited to get some lovely close up shots.
As I started sliding out of my sixties and preparing for my seventies, I realized I couldn’t keep going with my out-of-control lifestyle. While it’s been decades since I abused alcohol and prescription drugs, I still had certain “addictions” I had to deal with….mainly sugar. I’ve always had a sweet tooth and it had started taking its toll on my health. It got to the point where I’d buy our “weekend cake” on Friday and it was gone on Sunday night. It was just awful and had to stop.
Oh, my gosh, y’all…wouldn’t you love to bottle up some May and save it for January or February? Yesterday was one of those days you wish would last forever. Clear skies, high 70’s, a riding mower, and GOBS of flowers! We went out to the farm after breakfast and mowed. It’s been two weeks since we got the chance to mow out there and buddy, it really needed it.
The view of Seneca Rocks from the tent camping sites.
I was hoping there would be some time for sitting around the campfire, knitting and listening to the birds in the forest on this trip. It was anything BUT that. It was even BETTER! This trip was all about visiting my beloveds and making memories and that is priceless.
I remember the empty feeling when the first Mother’s Day rolled around after my mom died. I didn’t know what to do with my feelings. It’s different now that it’s been nineteen years, but that doesn’t mean my heart doesn’t still ache for my mom. I dreamt of her Friday night. It was nebulous and hazy, but I knew I was with her and my heart was full when I woke up.
Once you’ve got the first camping trip of the season under your belt, the others take less time to prepare So many of the camping items get put away for the winter and inevitably, you can’t find something you really need. We are trying to keep all the camping supplies in one place, but until that big pole building gets sorted out, things are still scattered around.
Our new pollinator spaces are already producing native wildflowers!
Land’s sake…Mr. FixIt and I can’t hear each other more and more often these days. Remember that time we went on a road trip and we’d pass people who were weaving on the road? He’d say, “Yep…he’s a Texan!” I couldn’t figure out how he knew that or why Texans are such poor drivers. Finally I passed someone and I saw for sure they weren’t from Texas…they were from New York. So, when he said, “Yep…he’s a Texan.” I turned to him and said, “Gotcha…he is not! He’s from New York!” He looked at me puzzled and said, “What are you talking about?” I said, “Well, every time we pass someone weaving, you announce he’s a Texan.” He started laughing and said, “Textin’! He’s a textin’!” We laughed our butts off over that one!
Here’s a funny story. Well, I guess it depends on who you’re talking to whether it was funny or not. The former Mrs. FixIt sent Mr. FixIt a picture today. It was a huge…and I mean HUGE possum in a live trap on her porch. She was trying to catch a pesky raccoon that has been eating her birdseed and getting into her plants up on the deck. Instead, she got Mongo the Marsupial! She tried to figure out what she was going to do and finally decided to just open the door and let it go.
