Have any of you heard of “Sisters on the Fly”? I’ve been lusting after their vintage travel trailers for quite some time now. I ordered their book and it arrived today. They are an organization of women with vintage travel trailers who join up and caravan together to different areas of the country and camp for a few days. There’s safety in numbers and they do a lot of activities like fly-fishing, horseback riding, antiquing, cooking, and just hanging out creating a sisterhood. I just joined and I’m waiting for my Sister number. Next, I’ll be on the lookout for a vintage trailer. I envision taking part in these gatherings as well as taking my art studio on the road to sell/market my jewelry. Something to look forward to. And fulfilling a dream that Mr. Virgo and I had. (OK, he wanted a new trailer and I wanted a vintage, so I guess I win that argument.) I am doing well tonight. Much better than last night. I have to work tomorrow so it’s lights out here at Marshmallow Ranch. Love you all!
I finally got back in the studio for a while today. Of course, it is very good therapy. I have my ups and downs as is to be expected. I made four prototype Travel Treasures necklaces today featuring horses and horse racing. I’m getting ready to send them to Louisville, KY to an upscale boutique who may be interested in featuring them in the shop for Derby Days. Keep your fingers crossed! Welcome, new friends! Thank you for dropping by and liking my page.
Well, this was a difficult week but I’m on the other side of it so I must “Keep Calm and Carry On” as Her Majesty says. The funeral was Saturday and it was truly a most wonderful tribute to a great man. All the family is gone so today I got my hair done and worked at the office for a few hours. The rest of the week will be filled with paperwork and appointments then my daughters want me to come spend Spring Break with them. My oldest daughter took me to Lowe’s yesterday and we bought the coolest tool box on wheels. I’m going to transfer my studio tools and supplies into it so I can be mobile. I haven’t attempted any jewelry yet, but I did just get some great silver iced tea spoons in the mail today so I am pretty jazzed about that. My studio is unfortunately in disarray as everything got tossed in there when preparing for company last week. That’s what I get for overflowing into the spare bedroom! Thank you all for your wonderful words of love and support this past week. You have no idea how much it has meant to me! And welcome to all my new friends who are following me. I will be back in full force before you know it!
I come to you today with great sorrow. I lost my beloved husband two days ago of a sudden, massive heart attack. He was my love, my soul mate and my best friend.
I won’t be in the studio for awhile but I will still check this page and monitor sales. Please keep our family in your prayers and I’ll be back as soon as I can.
A lot of people ask where I got the name “Marshmallow Ranch”. When my older daughter got engaged, we brought her new fiancé to West Virginia to meet the family. This was in the summer of 1994. She was twenty and her little sister was four. Yes…my children are just about sixteen years apart! What was I thinking??? Anyway, one sunny afternoon, we went for a drive. In West Virginia, when they bale the hay in those big round bales, they wrap them in white plastic to protect them from the rain. The farmer leaves them in the field to cure and before long, the grass has greened up around them and they look all the world like giant marshmallows waiting to be harvested. As we came around a curve, we saw them and my then four-year-old asked breathlessly, “Mama!!! What ARE those?” Her sassy older sister proclaimed we had happened upon the native grounds where the wild marshmallow grows. Here, they are harvested, cut into small pieces, bagged, and sent off to the grocery store for our enjoyment in such delicacies as hot cocoa or s’mores. My little one was stunned…till I made her sister tell her the truth!
