We’ve been getting high wind warnings for days saying Saturday was going to be bad. I don’t know that it was any worse than last Saturday but the wind sure blew! We went out to take pictures of the pear tree blossoms before they were ripped from the branches and while we were out there, we heard a big tree crash on the ridge beyond the dirt road. We heard it going down, but there are so many trees up there we couldn’t see exactly where it was. All my life, I never really worried about a tree coming down on me…till I moved back here. All those year growing up, we traipsed around this woods like a herd of goats without a care in the world. Now if there’s a stiff wind and we have to drive someplace, I have my eyes on the trees as much as I have them on the road. I don’t know what I think I would do if I saw one coming down on me. Perhaps it would be kinder to just not watch it falling.

Our laundry room is in the basement. As with most houses built in the late ‘60s to early ‘70s…the convenience of main floor laundry facilities was likely something found in the homes of the well-to-do. Unless, of course you counted the backwood houses with a wringer on the back porch or in a shed out back. Because our laundry is downstairs, it doesn’t get done quite as regularly as it should. As such, we often have to make a trip down there to get a daily essential. In my case last night…a nightgown.
Here’s a sneak peek at one of the aprons I designed yesterday. I just LOVE the orangey roses on the black and white striped background, don’t you? We bought two new rose bushes to plant along the fence out back.
Wow…Etsy is a whole lot different than it was in 2011 when I started my first shop there. It’s grown exponentially. The competition was fairly steep back then. Now…hokey-smokes! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But, when I first started working on this project at Christmas, I was totally lost. I was learning not one, not two…but three new-to-me programs. It took me a good five or six years before I felt comfortable with Wordpress, so I guess I’m doing pretty well to have come this far.
We don’t go out “on a date” very often. We never have, really. I guess between knowing each other forever, being on a fixed income, and living so far out in the country, the idea of getting dressed up and driving to town for a fancy dinner out is just something that has never appealed to us.
Now that the weather is warming up, we’re getting some little old jobs done here at Marshmallow Ranch. Mr. FixIt painted the hallway and he’s been working on the wood trim and baseboards. The door of the closet at the end of the hall tends to drag across the carpet, so he took it off the hinges yesterday and we carried it outside. He got the table saw out to cut about a quarter of an inch off the bottom.
This was taken a ways back. I ran across it this week and it just makes me smile!
I didn’t get much sleep Sunday night. I was SO excited about the shop opening. And, I admit…a little nervous. I went through everything in the shop, over and over, till I couldn’t see straight and I finally called it good a 2:00AM. When I woke up at 7:30 and turned the “Sleep Focus” off my phone, it chimed and jingled with all the notifications that told me you’d been busy looking and liking my shop. I was tickled to pieces!
It all started when I decided to leave the rat race of medicine and try to make a living from my own creativity. I dropped down to part time at the neurology office and started making art jewelry from antique silverware and maps. As a matter of fact some of you have been with me since the very beginning and can remember my little Etsy shop. When I lost Mr. Virgo, I tried to keep the shop going, but once I sold the Colorado house and hit the road in my camper I kinda lost my mojo.
I started off my day slipping quietly out of the house early to meet a few of my classmates for our ‘71 Divas Do Coffee gathering. It was so good to see the girls…some of whom I hadn’t seen since our class reunion last August. They all looked so wonderful and healthy. It did my heart good to spend time with them.
I spent yesterday doing a little housekeeping of a different sort. I combed thought my project looking for anything that needed fixing. I sat with mug after mug of tea. Mr. FixIt brought me a sandwich to my Big Red Chair. I watched the rain steadily fall outside. And by 6:00, I proclaimed I’m as ready as I’ll ever be. I’m leaving it alone tomorrow then I’ll take one last look through it on Sunday, Then I have the big unveiling on Monday!
I had no electricity in the camper Wednesday night. I was toasty warm so we seem to be past the cold weather now!
I woke up bright and early yesterday and got started working on my project. It was 7:30 and the house was quiet as Mr. FixIt snoozed away. The day broke cloudy and grey and it started warming up in a hurry. It got up to 76° yesterday! It kept looking like rain but none came.
