The view from the end of the far field…my other happy place.
It was quite a job, but Mr. FixIt and I got the blades turned around right without having to take off the mower deck. Believe me, it was not easy. We were both rolling around on the driveway, reaching as far as we could and jamming a piece of 4x4 in there to keep the blade from turning as Mr. FixIt tightened the bolt. As soon as we were done, we gassed it up and added oil and I was ready to go. Wouldn’t you know, just thirty minutes in, the belt popped off again! But once we had it back on, it stayed on and I had the mowing done in about three hours.
Yesterday was the perfect day for outdoor chores. Sunny and 68° with nothing but a gentle breeze. Mr. FixIt went out to start working on the lawnmower since I so generously popped the belt off the mower deck this weekend. I tell you what… there’s not much that ruffles my husband’s feathers. He just takes things as they come.
Look at these points, but please don’t think they all look that way because they don’t!
Wasn’t yesterday the perfect day??? Sunny, warm, and Easter…the perfect combo! We cleaned a lot this weekend. I worked on the quilt and made a great deal of progress. It’s been a very long time since I made such a complicated quilt and my skills are rusty. But, it’s a gift, not something for competition so I’m happy with it. I’m sure the kids will love it.
That’s me in the middle with the sausage curls. Mom used to either pin curl my hair or use a Toni Home Perm. Remember those? Grandma’s snuggling Trinket. Bubby is behind me. Tim-Tam and Tissy Rae to the left.
One of my favorite memories is Easter Morning out at the farm. Sometimes all the cousins would be there. We’d all get dressed in our Easter finery and head to the little white church on the hill down the road. There would usually be a crowd there…maybe twenty-five, thirty people. When I was really little, Reverend Proudfoot would come preach if it was our turn on the circuit. I liked him. He often had lunch with us at Grandma and PopPop’s dinner table. When I got older, it was Preacher Simon. He scared the daylights out of me. If Easter didn’t fall on Preaching Sunday, either my PopPop or his brother, Uncle Red, would lead the services and give a bible study. But whoever it was, Easter filled me with awe because Jesus actually rose from the dead that day! It was amazing and wondrous!
Mr. FixIt got a closeup of our Dwarf Rhododendron! Good job, babe!
Whew! I wasn’t sure I was ever going to be finished. Even with all the work I did in advance, it still took me five days to do the taxes. Good golly! I was determined to get them done yesterday so I asked Mr. FixIt if he would mind making his world famous oats for breakfast so I could get to work. After breakfast, he left me to my own devices and went out to change a part on Louisa the Lincoln. The “Service Engine Soon” light has been on for a week. At first it said it was the gas cap so we got a new one. No change. Then it indicated the Mass Air Intake Sensor was faulty so we ordered a new one. I had to help a little because Mr. FixIt only has two hands.
The bottom of our Dwarf Rhododendron doesn’t look so good.
Yesterday was one of those days when all I did was make more work for myself. I sat down to continue working on the taxes and I couldn’t find our receipt for the real estate taxes anywhere. So, off to our little village I went. I picked up a package at the Post Office then headed to the County Courthouse. After greeting the very nice guard at the entrance, I headed down the hall and ran into one of my Facebook friends. Rain and I hadn’t met in person yet. We came to be friends online through our mutual friend, Sparky. I introduced myself and we stood in the hallway for forty-five minutes. She loves to fish. Me, too! She makes jewelry out of old silverware. Me, too! (Though not for some time.) She loves to read, write, and takes awesome photographs. We love a lot of the same things so I think we’re going to be fast friends.
A storm was brewing when we got home last evening. A cold front came in and ran smack dab into the balmy 87° heat we had in the afternoon!
Well, I told you it would be a long day and I was right. It was 9:30 last night before I finally sat down to write my post. We left the house at 11:00 yesterday morning. The medical appointments always take longer than expected. While mine was shorter than usual, it’s still a long wait. Mr. FixIt walked around the mall to keep himself occupied. We went to lunch and had Wendy’s salads between the appointments.
If I would have started earlier, I think I could have gotten these taxes finished in one day. While having the banking finished ahead of time was a real help, there were still a few papers I couldn’t find. We’ll have to run over the hill and get copies of the personal property taxes today. We are really diligent about putting anything tax relate in a special container. Well, ONE of us is…I’m not saying who it is but he gets in trouble every year for the same infraction. (Oops!)
Hey, remember how I’m always tearing my hair out when it’s time to do the taxes? I get on the laptop and find out its been so long since I’ve been on it that I need to do eight hours of work just updating everything. Then, I realize that I didn’t download anything but the first quarter of the year into my financial software so I spend another two or three days downloading and categorizing everything. It’s crazy making!
It was a day of rest, for sure…but I also piddled around on the computer downloading elements for my designs. It feels good to be creating again. I posted two sets of Grief Support Greeting Cards in my shop with the same sentiments I offer in my writings. They’re quite simple with a line drawing of a flower behind the dual-font script. The inside is blank for your own message and each comes with its own envelope. They are sold in packets of five. These are the first cards I’ve attempted and I hope you like them.
